I have hired a car twice from Avis, Chester in the past few months and both times have been AWFUL! The initial service was fine but then as I (incorrectly) recieved a parking fine Avis have then charged me £30 admin fee TWICE! I then emailed customer service to which i had NO REPLY after 2 weeks. The second time I hired (Booking before I realised I had been incorrectly charged) i returned the car before midnight after refuelling. One week later I have been charged for late return and not refuelling! When calling the Chester branch they had no record of me. After calling customer service I have eventually had both issues resolved, no thanks to the Chester branch. They did not tell me they were charging for petrol or a late fee and did not apologise after I am now out of pocket until the money has been refunded. Advice for any potential customers: WATCH YOUR BANK STATEMENTS!

Reasonable efficient when collected car on Friday, but return on Sunday at 5pm was unclear. Office closed, as expected, but wasn't sure which of the two car parks opposite to leave car in - should have been signposted or written instructions or a map provided. Cost £7.40 for overnight parking and took quite a while to pay using the automated telephone line, thankfully I had left plenty of time to catch my train. They should surely make provision for this. Will think twice before booking next time.

Parking charges to return the car after hours are a rip-off, double what the staff claim. Also the car I was given could not be refuelled to full (despite two attempts), so also got stiffed with a fuel charge. Avoid.

I hired a car for the weekend and it was an almost brand new Mercedes GLA, an absolutely beautiful car to drive.

The collection process was good, a little more paperwork than a normal Avis as they are a franchise, but friendly, helpful and just fine.

To drop the car on a Sunday when the location is closed you had to park in a 24 hour car park around the corner, it was fine, but the extra £8.20 was a bit of a pain! Maybe finding a way for people to return cars after hours would make this a 5 Star review.

But i couldn't have asked for a better car and friendlier professional staff.

Good hire company, but be aware to check invoice as if you do less than 100miles they automatically charge you £14.40 for refueling, which you then have to call up and request a refund for. Make me wonder how many people don't realise and they make an extra £14 off hiring a van.

Rubbish service from this branch. Was quoted £132 to hire a car, however when I got to the place the card reader said £462... I asked the lady why, and she said there was a £200 deposit as well as a surplus charge due to me being a young driver. They claimed they didn't know I was a young driver, (despite having my birthday on the form), and so the charge was hidden until the day. Terrible service and I won't be going back.

I had to cancel and re-book the booking for this date in order to swap the car for an automatic due to personal reasons. Over 20 days on I am still yet to receive a refund for the original booking, and the customer care centre just doesn't answer the phone.

Avoid, avoid, avoid. Vehicle had a small scratch on collection, which they said was insignificant and did not mark down on the form. After drop off they charged £1000 to my credit card without any discussion. This was more than the estimated repair bill for damage that was pre-existing. They refused to answer the phone or reply to emails to discuss. Avoid.
