A little confused by some of these reviews we visited yesterday and all there was were the walls and tower (£2 entry) there was no actual castle to go in? Anyway the view from the castle walls is lovely but even better from the top of the tower, the tower however is not available for anyone who isnt confident on their feet as the spiral staircase is uneven. We spent about 30 minutes on site all together

Another nice castle from the 11th century.

For me it was the highlight of the trip when travelling around the UK, back in 2001, to see all these old castles and fortifications everywhere in diffrent designs and sizes.
Many still in good condition and maintained, both small once and other massive.

the wall is a great opportunity for a nice walk around the city. minuses: not pram/wheelchair friendly, some parts are in repair.Chester is a nice town, and a fun place to visit if you want to walk the walls. The castle itself is OK. Nothing special.A little confused by some of these reviews we visited yesterday and all there was were the walls and tower (£2 entry) there was no actual castle to go in? You can see where the original castle was and mostly its only the Tower left. However, it only costs £2 to get into the Tower and its worth a look with a good view of the city. The castle was closed when we visited, but we were able to get some nice exterior photos from our vantage, walking the old wall.

They had a really nice early era styled display today, with musket firing and information about traditions at the time. All people were very friendly and informative.

Its a beautiful castle that's seen some rough time. I can't wait to go back once it has been restored and refurbed in a way. The volunteers there are doing a great job. Keep an eye open on the english heritage website to find out about the opening days and ticket fares (if any).
