Nice visit here today, 1st visit, brought family visiting from Newcastle, lovely place and cafe, helpful staff, pretty lake and flower beds, would definately return . Costs approx £2.50 to go into the museum or free just walk the grounds and use the cafe. Plenty of free parking.

Beautiful place!

The gardens are well kept, beautiful flowers. They have a lovely park with a splash zone which is perfect for kids 4+. Younger ones not much to do.
Though down by the lake there is a lovely train ride which is only £2 to go on and such fun. Staff was very friendly too. Perfect day out

Free parking, lovely big grounds for walks and trails. The museum and tea room is lovely. There is a splash park and park for kids, little train ride and also a lovely cafe with decking in the sun.

First time visiting and can't believe I haven't been here before. Lovely walk and a great place to bring the kids. Need to come back and see more than the splash park and cafe as so much more from the looks of it.

Wonderful architectural masterpiece. Built in 1820 by William Crawshay it's more of a country manor than a castle. It's beautiful to look at from all sides and it makes a great photo opportunity.

The grounds are gorgeous, with a lake to walk around, forests, many trees and flowers. It's quite pretty. The lake usually had ducks too.

Inside the castle there is a museum firstly about the local area and secondly about the Crawshay family and his art collection. It's quite informative.

It's a really enjoyable place to walk

A Victorian manor with decorated with a castle motif. There is some interesting art on display. It however is in a great park which has an excellent cafe. Great place to walk and let the kids run.

Went for a cold January walk.
I have been driving past this for over 50 years and my wife suggest a visit.
It has plenty of parking and a lot of ground to cover. Family friendly with paths suitable for prams. Plenty of toilets and cafes for hot drinks and snacks. We didn't visit the museum as we simply ran out of time. We usually like our walks a little more on the wild side but this is O.K. and easy enough in good trainers.
