A really quaint town with so much architecture. There are some amazing independent shops which appeal to everyone's taste and the main drag has everything you should expect from shopping to cafes and everything in between.

The castle really is just a ruin, not much left of it, nice bit of history though, apparently it is said that king Henry V was born here. There's also a lovely memorial garden to the left of it. Worth a look if you're in the area as it has a few old buildings around the area and a lovely little town.

Quite disappointed by the lack of anything at this site, two info boards I could see, one of them destroyed by weather, a house built on top of part of the ruin and it seemed to me that local authorities are more interesting in protecting their flag pole than conserving what's left of the castle. Very sad. There are lots of other amazing castles to visit nearby, I would recommend any of those over coming to Monmouth

Cute ruins. The museum is nearby. The actual town is superb. Town walks

It's a nice little castle but it's really tiny and there's not a lot to do. I feel really aggrieved as I'm a history buff and I feel disappointed to give such a poor review of a historical site. I wouldn't bother in visiting to be honest

Having tracked down this castle in a back street I must admit it was a little disappointing. Not a lot remaining, difficult to fully appreciate and you can't walk around it's perimeter (it is free though). My advice if visiting the area would be to go to Raglan or Goodrich which are much more impressive; both are within 10km of Monmouth (you do have to pay at both however).

Not alot left of the castle to be honest but neither less enjoyable and you want to see a bit of history

Not much left of the castle but history info boards give you fascinating story of the castle & the house still being used by the army, cannon from Crimean war & machines used in other wars on display in the square.
