UPDATE BELOW!! Best chip shop in the area not just for fish and chips but everything from donner kebabs to burgers, clean tidy shop, food cooked fresh, great helpful staff, well above normal portions and stunning food even the salads, we drive from Lydney end for this food its that good, its our go to shop for fish and chips UPDATE!! This is the best covid 19 safe shop around for take away, owner makes sure everything is done to keep food, customers and staff safe so if your having food ring and order as its a one person in the shop at a time. Cards payment preferred as like everywhere else.

OMW, other half fancied fish and chips ( I could write on a postage stamp in 20+ years how many times he has had this ) decided to head towards Lydney from Caldicot, googled fish and chips, came up with this, exactly as previous reviews had mentioned. Warm friendly accommodating staff, very helpful. I do not like batter on my fish. I had it ' wet fried ( I believe) although for me MAYBE a little too long, as a little dry. Not the fault of the premises, my personal taste, even had to go back and get a jumbo sausage for the dog 🐕!!!. Wrapped in cardboard trays and paper. NO plastic in sight!!!
Will DEFINITELY go back, have already recommended to others...........keep up the GOOD work Frydays 👏.....................x

Friendly chippy owners with good chat while we waited for the fish to be cooked (but not long at all unlike other reviewers), and lovely fish and chips. Frydays deserve their reputation and I’d happily wait in a queue for good fish and chips. I wish you were my local! Thank you for making us smile on a wet Halloween!

I was really excited having read all the reviews and when we arrived everyone was very friendly, but was very let down by the food. Huge portion of cod and ample chips (photos only show half) but when I got home (not far) I found the fish must have been sat for a while as the batter wasn’t fresh and crispy and as per the photo the batter had absorbed all the oil so when I put any pressure on it to cut it it was oozing oil (and yes I know batter is fried in oil so I do expect some). The chips were poor though as well I’m afraid, they didn’t taste just cooked but like they’d been sat for a bit and were super greasy. I only had salt on them but they were soggy and limp.

I feel bad leaving this review but I paid a fair price and got a poor meal, I ate the half not shown in the photo and just couldn’t face the rest, what a waste.

Maybe it was time of day (around 5:30pm) or just a one off but as this was my first try I don’t feel inspired to go back soon. Again the staff were very friendly so perhaps it was just a one off but I feel really let down as was hoping it would be great.

Picked this place after reviews of another local place put us off. We'd driven from south Wales to see Lydney Harbour & give the campervan a blast.

Empty when we got there, an hour before closing, but a bitterly cold evening to be out soooo 🤷🏼‍♂️

Owners are lovely & friendly, chips were huge & freshly cooked & had a Wright's chicken & mushroom pie between us with a small portion of chips each - bonus it was Wright's, my daughter swears by them 👍

Really can't fault anything tbh, food was lovely & hot, chips were perfect 👌 And we'll definitely go back. Just added it to our list of perfect chippies and it's a damn sight closer than the next nearest in Brean 😂
