Simon the sales advisor was absolutely brilliant, nothing was too much. I am unfortunately a very picky person and find it hard to make choices on anything so I took a sample of the laminated flooring I’m having in my hallway to try and pick a carpet to go with it on my stairs. Simon bless him spent ages getting carpet samples and laying them out on the floor next to my sample to help me pick the right one, he was so patient and really went above and beyond. What a credit he is to his employer and what a genuinely lovely guy as well.
We went in yesterday evening at 17:30 (2.5 hours before closing time) and the 4 members staff did not look up once from their desks and were clearly avoiding talking to customers. Eventually after I caught eye contact with one man who was walking across the shop floor I said "Hiya, we'd like a ball-park figure/quote please", he said quite dismissively "um um umm speak to my colleague Simon over there".
Simon was clearly not happy about this at all! he was rude, his tone was off and he clearly did not want to help and acted like we were just an inconvenience to his life. He moaned about the fact that the measurements we had were from Rightmove, I said "but you guys go in there and measure up more precisely anyway"... he said "ur umm yeah we do, but your measurements could be so far off because I moved into a house and the first thing I done was remeasure and the measurements on Rightmove were so far off", I said "I have photos too, and your expert experience should help get a good ball park figure then?". He carried on moaning.
In the end I said "Do you want to do it, or not? The other shops have been more than happy to do this" and he was just going on and on and essentially said "on your bike, I can't bebothered"...
Carpetright has lost a customer. Today we got actual measurements and have obviously gone with another local supplier who were friendly, helpful and actually like what they do. we've placed an order of over £6500 (only £500 less off what the estimated it to be). Other estimates from other places were also around the same mark so it goes to show Carpetright just did not want to help...
Unfortunately because of the staffs incompetence at the Colchester branch of Carpetright, they lost out on quite a big order in my opinion.
Culture in a business filters down from the top down, so my suggestion is that Carpetright HQ need to get in there and sort this out otherwise the likes of TAPI Carpets and other local competitors will wipe you out.
We walked into the store on a Saturday… it was quiet, not many customers in the store. There were 4-5 staff members on computers on shop floor as well as perhaps 1-2 more “floating” around; still no approach. Nobody approached us to offer help or ask if we needed any assistance. It would have been quite obvious that we were paying customers and not simply window shoppers as we did ultimately touch almost every carpet they had on display. After being in the store for 10-15 minutes we left as we didn’t feel that a store where not one person had approached us deserved our money.
We then went into Tapi Carpets a few doors down from there and the service received was a million times better... (definitely recommend). We had our carpets fitted today by Tapi and we’re chuffed.
We've been coming to Carpetright for all our carpets and floor coverings for the last 14 years.
On every occasion we have excellent service from Simon. He certainly knows his carpets and he is a very experienced fitter to.
Lovely chap and keeps my mother happy to, which is no mean feat.
Best taste in cheesecake too apparently. Vimto from Iceland.
