From the moment we met Jane and James, we knew we were in safe hands. They listened to us and made sure our funeral was personal to us and respected our father’s wishes.

The communication from Family Tree was clear and speedy. Our queries were answered each time and options were discussed at each stage.

The day itself ran smoothly and we couldn’t have wished for a more bespoke service.

As a family, we felt cared for. What more could you ask for at such a difficult time.

Thank you, Family Tree. I can recommend your services without any hesitation.

Family Tree are a phenomenal funeral directors. There was no let up of their attention to detail from start to finish. We wanted a low key, celebration of life funeral and that is exactly what we got. The care and kindness we received was out of this world, nothing was too much trouble for James and Jane. They even went the extra mile by contacting a stone mason to reposition my brother's gravestone. They looked after Mum with exceptional dignity. The nursing home that she was in said that they had never met such a fantastic funeral directors as when James and Jane were in the room to pick Mum up, they included her in the conversation as if she was still there. I couldn't have chosen anyone better than James Shower and Jane Diamond from family Tree funeral directors.

Jane and James at Family Tree Funeral Company helped immensely to make our recent funeral a memorable goodbye. Our children and grandchildren were involved in the actual service with artwork for the nameplate on the coffin contributed by 2, 5, 9 and 12 years olds. The flowers were gorgeous and locally sourced. Nothing was too much trouble.

I cannot recommend this small funeral directors highly enough.

My father didn’t have many surviving friends or family and I couldn’t face an empty church it just would have been even more sad and not right.

I wanted an intimate and unique funeral for my father who was both of these traits. Jane and James were so helpful and said I could have a private ceremony by the graveside. They helped me with the process so much that it felt like I was celebrating my fathers life which is what I wanted.

I was apprehensive about seeing dad at the funeral directors, but I needn’t have been. Jane had dressed him beautifully; with his neckachief, shirt, cap, waistcoat, trousers and his slippers. I was able to say my goodbyes and my last memory of him looking so dapper.

The funeral day was perfect! Dad arrived and we carried him to the graveside where Jane played jazz music and then we all said some words.

I know that I wouldn’t have got through the whole process without Jane’s support over the phone and face to face with both James and Jane.

They are the most compassionate, empathetic, knowledgeable and accommodating team you could ever wish to have by your side through the most difficult time of your life.

Thank you both

I keep putting off writing this review as I've found it difficult to find the words to capture just how wonderful Family Tree and what they offer is. They made what was a very difficult time when we lost mum, one that was also healing and positive as well as one that we even have good memories from.

The light touch support and attention to detail offered by Jane (and James) helped us to find our way through all the decisions, in a practical sense of reminding us what needed doing and also helping us to to find what would feel and work best for us in our situation.
As a family we felt very cared for and respected as we went through the process. I will be forever grateful and whole heartedly recommend them.

After looking at the Family Funeral website and discovering a world of possibilities that I thought didn't exist, I contacted Jane and James to arrange a meeting immediately. Afterwards I knew that as a family we were in the right hands and I didn't look any further. Throughout the whole distressing process from my wife's untimely passing to planning the style of funeral on our own land both Jane and James were attentive to our wishes and prompt in answering questions. The funeral went ahead despite some pretty dismal weather forecasts and all of our many dear friends commented on how well Jane and James handled the proceedings from supplying the beautiful woollen coffin to organising the bearers and finally laying my wife to rest in our own wild flower meadow. To top it all, the sun came out complete with rainbow and ended the day perfectly. I have no hesitation is recommending Family Tree Funerals as I know the funeral will be handled with care and respect for all concerned.

Thank you so very much for the amazing care and support in helping us say goodbye to mum and send her on her way. I feel privileged and proud to have a funeral directors like this in Stroud - offering something so kind, unique and a bit radical too. You have given us practical guidance and also opened up options that we were unaware of, to make the whole journey immensely special and personal. Things like showing us how to help move and carry mum from her bed at home into the hearse, creating a space where we could invite a close group of our family to wash and dress mum, and being there for us to regularly drop in and just say hi. I love the cool sustainable and affordable options like the cardboard coffin, and how you helped us incorporate our DIY elements including a handmade pall, and home grown wreath of flowers.

I've been reflecting on how your approach challenges lots of society's stigmas around death in such a compassionate and gentle way, and that has helped us so much in our grief.

And now less than one month later, our dear granny has died, and you are here for us again - even coming to her house on Christmas day, and helping us run a drop-in so that 20 of her friends and family could come and see her resting in peace. You've continued to give comfort and support as we plan a completely different community celebration, which will be exactly right for her, here in her beloved home town.

Thank you.

I could not have asked for better service from James and his team. Compassion, care, understanding, professionalism and a willingness to tailor the occasion to exactly what I wanted for my father. Guests came up to me afterwards and said it was the first funeral they'd actually enjoyed!
