We've stayed here before a couple of times and chose it because of its location and character. It's an old pub, built in 1611, and is set in a charming village not far from the A303. We had a double room overlooking the garden, with a wash basin, and a shared bathroom. It was very clean and comfortable. The hosts are welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent -- we had the Special, roasted Sea Bass with roasted new potatoes, carrots and beans, with a delicious sauce. We would certainly recommend this place to anyone.

A lovely little pub in a beautiful village. Dog friendly really clean. Small details made it feel as if you were welcome. Couldn't fault the food and the owners

Staying in the village so visited “the local” for dinner. A warm welcome on arrival, food ordered and was on the table in quick time. An excellent homemade steak & ale pie was a good choice. A varied menu on offer. A must place to visit if you’re in the area, you won’t be disappointed

We used to stay here, when our daughter was studying in Winchester. Such a wonderful, quirky country pub. Full of charm, great staff and amazing food.

On my travels I popped in to this inn that's oozing with history on the off chance that they had a bit of grub for lunch. The lad behind the bar was extremely friendly and made me feel right at home.

The food was pretty good, especially since it's a temporary menu from the new owners but most importantly the beer was great

I would definitely pop in again if I was in the area. Hopefully you new venture will be a great success if today was anything to go by I am sure it will. Thanks a lot guys hopefully see you soon

Absolutely cracking Inn. Parked up early, stunning strut around Wherwell and returned for a lovely pie lunch… renowned for their pies and pasties… so many to choose from. Wonderful pastry 🥮. Very friendly and welcoming staff, dog 🐶 friendly. Strongly recommend… we’ll be back.
December visit… thought it had closed down? New owners settling in. Warm welcome nice pint.. but just getting menu sorted with kitchen open again. NB No longer PIE 🥧 specialists. Such a shame 🤔🙄😳🙁😥😥😥. Watch this space ?????

Our first time visiting on Monday, we stopped by for lunch and were so impressed with the setting, the food (we can highly recommend the pies and the lemon meringue ice-cream cake!) and most of all, the service. We had a lovely lady look after us and, although she appeared to be by herself, she couldn't do enough for us. We will definitely be visiting again very soon!

Very friendly staff. Steak and ale pie was delicious with pastry top and bottom and not a soggy bottom to be seen!!! Chips "awfully lovely" as my husband put it. I had the roast pork which was equally tasty and came with loads of vegetables. Oh dear was I meant share them !!!!!! An enjoyable quick Sunday lunch and not a pan in sight!!! Thanks.
