I’ve dealt with two different departments over the past year, Dermatology and Women’s Health, and honestly the staff from both have been absolutely incredible. From reception, to nurses, to doctors and all in between.
I can’t name any names because there’s too many and all of them have made dealing with awful health conditions better.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to both departments. Sending love.
I was referred for an MRI, which one is required to book in response to a text message and letter. Throughout the 14 day window I was unable to do so, despite attempts by myself and other kind people to reach the relevant booking time. My understanding is that I have now been discharged back to my GP without the MRI taking place. It took nearly a year to get the initial appointment, so who knows how long it will get that MRI scan now. Here's hoping it's not a brain tumor.
Hats off to every member of staff I encountered whilst there, from friendly reception staff, student dentists and my surgeon Ellie. You were all incredibly kind and put me at ease.
I had two wisdom teeth extracted within a short amount of time (I was very lucky to have a cancellation appointment otherwise I may have had to wait around to have the surgery or to come back the next day).
I was informed about what would happen every step of the way and the aftercare. Thank you.
I would recommend St Guy’s Hospital Dental Department without hesitation and wish I’d of done this sooner. Bring on the recovery now!
My appointment for surgery was at 15:00, but didn't reach the theatre until 18:15. The surgery itself went super smooth. I felt great after, and recovered at home on a liquid diet for a week, rinses, and alternating between ibuprofen and paracetamol. For reference, my teeth weren't that complicated and I have a high tolerance for pain
The staff was absolutely wonderful. They gave my partner all the information needed for the recovery period, all the pain medication, and would have been available in case any side effects emerged. They also warmed me up with a tube under my blanket as soon as I woke up from the anesthesia, which felt great.
I can't fault my experience at this hospital in any way. Waiting 3 hours past my appointment time was tough without food or water, and it's something I wasn't told or prepared for, but I know how busy and overworked hospitals are here, plus I was given IV fluids so I felt fantastic after the procedure. And sure, I waited 6 months from referral day, but I am very thankful I could get this done for free under our health care system. Were my case more serious, I think my waiting time would have been less. But either way, I'm super satisfied with my experience at the Dental department of Guy's hospital!
Parking is a nightmare, even for Blue Badge holders, so if possible, you should use public transport where possible.
There is an NCP multistorey carpark in Kipling Street, which isn't cheap.
The ground floor has all the disabled parking spaces. Remember, you must display your blue badge whilst using them!
There is a reception upon entering the hospital, which can guide you on where to go. There's also a little open shop to buy whatever you like.
Travelling: one of the easiest routes to reach by car. There is disabled badge parking right outside the hospital. However, I'm not sure for normal parking. Don't forget you have to pay congestion charge.
I would recommend getting on a train.
There's a lot to see with beautiful views of the city.
