I had an issue with an screw which I wasn't sure how to tackle. They advised to use something very specific and I listened so bought 2 products from them - I specifically asked 'can I return this if it doesn't work?' they said 'not if it is open and you've used it' (obviously!). So I come back next working day to return the items completely untouched because they were not what I needed and they say that they don't return the money and can only give a credit note. I only buy hardware very rarely so I've basically lost my money. Honestly, I feel in the XXI century all businesses have to be competitive and live to modern standards, which include no-question refunds! Otherwise people go to Amazon instead of supporting the local stores... no wonder why.

Massively overpriced. I bought some snips from this shop for £25, then went around the corner to another small and notoriously fancy independent garden/hardware shop Niwaki where the identical item was £15 (which, it turns out, is what they cost everywhere else). Be warned; this shop does not give refunds, only credit notes. Only use them if you are desperate and even then check the prices of other nearby retailers. I was left with a seriously bad feeling of having been basically ripped off.

Only wanted a small item, made to feel unwelcome and will not return any time soon. I was clearly incompetent as a customer.

The worse place I have ever been. They treated me like I am a useless ignorant thing. I left very scared the way they talked and behaved, they are not friendly and not willing to serve. When I entered one of the men working gave me a funny look and stood behind, following me wherever I walked . When asked for help to find a product, didn't even look my face and he went to get the item, came back and handed me something different of what I asked. Then he became upset and hostile, then another of them came to help and said that this is all we have take it or leave it . They didn't allow me to speak and tried to get rid of me, at this time there was not clients but me, they were not busy but instead chatting at the counter between them. Please if you need something trust my advice and look somewhere else where they care about their customers. It looks like that you are bothering them. Disgusting !

4 sets of5☆s...for the window display...for the shop contents...for the polite and attentive service... and for my fabulous swag...one proper pot brush, one mushroom brush, one bottle brush, one clothes brush, one hat brush and one brush brush, for cleaning my window ledges between the terracotta plant containers. Quicker than a currently banned trip to France. Almost on my doorstep...a short bus ride away. Grateful such shops still exist in the UK...but I suspect rare now. Many, many brushes...some with beautiful, superbly crafted fine wooden handles...functional objects of beauty.

Thank you very much Peter, Cliff and Alex for your knowledge, for coming up with solutions and ideas and for saving me money in purchasing the right things for the use I needed them. You are kind and caring for your customers and that's is so very important especially in the age of the pandemic. My congratulations to the Management of David Penton and Son for having such a wonderful team!

Needed a plug adapter. They had it with a smile. And much more!! The shop is a museum of useful items with competitive prices. I will use them again on my next trip to London.
