A closed car park, a hidden rubbish bin and an overgrown meadow full of ants, surrounding an historic ruin. Alvecote priory is certainly not what I'd class as a picnic site. There are no facilities, at all what so ever here, not even a flat area of grass. It clearly had facilities in the past, a car park, benches, bins etc, I assume that the site has been subjected to government cut backs.

Don't expect a 'tourist-ready' conserved ruin with information signs etc. It is just the remaining stones and wall fragments in the middle of an overgrown field. There was a small car park here, but even that has been closed for some time due to vandalism. So it is what it is, but still interesting if you are visiting on foot and don't mind a bit of overgrown vegetation.

Not much of it left but still lovely to see, look out for the pigeon house. Car park is closed for the foreseeable future .....

Not much left of it, just a ruin. But worth a look , dates back 100s of years.! Home Benedictine Monks. 12 century?

Accessed directly off the road and will only take 5mins to see everything. Would be a good place to visit for people who cannot walk far distances.

Fantastic place, good ruins, nice for a picnic or a look round, great for photography, only a short work from the road

Nice little site. The ruins are whats left of a Victorian Agricultural College. The Dovecote is original. The original Priory is long gone now. I have posted an old black and white photo of the original Priory.
