Stunning little historic building hidden away on top of a hill. The interior is also free to explore.

Perhaps Isobel Gowdie was kept in here, while awaiting her trial for witchcraft. Brodie, its owner, was of her time and involved with the judicial system

There is no parking at the tower, but there is a worn track before the sign for the tower where 2 cars can be parked without blocking the track. The track is the back entrance to the tower. It is possible to walk along the road and climb the steps up to the tower then walk back down the track to the parked cars. The tower has a key to unlock it and can be be explored inside. Not much to see, ground and first floor. Wooden steps up. Chain to ring the bell.

Most beautiful spot to stop. Walk down to the river and follow it along the back of the church and graveyard. Bellissimo

Ardclach Bell Tower, a Grade A listed building dating to at least 1655, is thought to be the only tower and belfry combination in Scotland, and is a simple square design with 2 floors. On the first floor is a small fireplace with “MGB” engraved into stone, referencing Margaret Grant Brodie, wife of Baron Alexander Brodie of Lethen, a Covenanter. The ground floor was used as a tiny single room prison.

A little gem tucked in a remote area of Nairnside. Built in 1655 it is believed it was used as a watch tower and the lower levels a small prison.
