I had my left kidney removed because of a "mass of something" ( probably cancer) and will find out in about 2 weeks. The staff, from surgeons to the domestic team were fantastic and I was well looked after. I really can't find the words to thank you all for looking after me during my stay and also surprised how quick I pulled through my operation!!! You guys are all super amazing!!! Dioch i ti pawb! X

An unexpected hospital stay with suspected mini stroke found me in very unfamiliar territory at AMAU. The ward was extremely busy with high levels of serious illnesses, but nevertheless I received excellent levels of serious attention from nursing staff up to consultants. I arrived on ward after speedy referral from surgery and within a short time doctor arrived to assess and decide on next thing to do. I was squeezed in for CT and xray and still managed to get lunch. The stroke nurse also attended. I had to stay in overnight and honestly did not sleep much, the constant noise and bleeping from medical equipment cannot be avoided but luckily my headset cancelled out some of it. Before breakfast i had an MRI and all staff from porters to radiography staff were excellent. Luckily it was not a stroke but an inner ear issue which had affected my balance badly. The stroke consultant attempted the Epley maneuver which sounds crazy, and i advised him to check out YouTube videos on it! He was unsuccessful and i continued to walk like a drunken sailor. But all was not lost, a second attempt by a doctor who had done it before was succesful and i was able to go home. I was very lucky to only have to spend one night, i hope that others there will be home soon. We are very lucky to have an NHS that can pull these things together , but i was acutely aware of negatives, such as lack of pillows, warm bedding( it was pretty chilly despite being May), the pressures on staff to get people home with suitable care packages. The stroke issue was a shock, but looks like I've got a slightly wonky smile, phew!!

Would’ve been 1 star, however, the medical staff on the day were good. Although I found reception staff quite rude and very unfriendly.

Waiting for important results, at the time I was told 1-2 weeks, I called back after 3 weeks and was told the results take 2-3 weeks. Now, 6 weeks later, rang again and was told results take 6-8 weeks.
They change the timings depending on how long you say you’ve been waiting. Reception staff are blunt to say the least and would benefit from training in dealing with the public. I’m left in limbo as the results determine what medication/further treatment I need.
Being new to the area this is the first time I’ve dealt with this hospital, stark difference from others I’ve used, very poor.
