An ancient city centre hotel, everything is very dated in the hotel except the staff. The staff generally speaking, lacked the proper professional social skills for a customer focused business.
I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The room I was given was dark, literally very dark with burned out lights and a promise from staff to bring a desk lamp.
The WiFi did not work, and was told by staff it had issues but the manager chooses to only trust one person who wasn't available.

This time the room was excellent..very clean, big comfortable double bed, clean sheets, the room was spotless . Bathroom again very clean and two large bath towels. Quiet part of the hotel (room 97) The only one thing that niggled was no remote control..did ask at reception they said they would 'sort it' but later in the evening still no remote. It was was midnight anyway so didn't really need it.

Stayed here in November 2021.
Lift was not working. Restaurant closed despite being advertised. No breakfast and no gym but they advise this online to trick you good. When asked reception, they said they haven't had this for a while because of covid.
Room was freezing, heating not working!!! Homeless shelters must have better conditions!
Bed and towels were clean but not much else. Floor was dirty and walls were really dirty. A simple wet-wipe would have solved the issue, but probably staff has no time to clean.
Was unable to phone reception because phone had no cable! Ended up with a few more covers after a massive complaint with a employee that couldn't care less. (I wonder how bad is to work in a place like this!)
Hotel is old but this wouldn't matter if the conditions would be good, unfortunately the basics weren't met.
Left the hotel really early to carry on my trip as I couldn't bear any second longer here.
Have used many hostels, B&Bs and shared-accommodation and they are much cheaper and far better than this. Haven't had this bad service in a very long time.
Hope this hotel closes. No one deserves this. What a shambles.

Room was freezing ask if they could look and still as bad when we got back as was most of the hotel staff were in coats wall paper coming away, we up graded and we got nothing for it. Advertised phone but none, no food or drinks, I.e. restaurant as shown on web site. not mentioned when booked, lift took you up to first floor, then stairs flat floor then steps again not good for disabled person with foot problems. Will not be using that hotel again. This Hotel looks as though it could have been a remarkable Hotel in the past but very run down now.

Cold, freezing rooms, no restaurant open no bar, paper peeling off the wall, staff on reception were actually wearing their coats. The whole place does not look a patch on what I think it once was, run down. Bed not comfortable, 2 pushed together to make a king size, quilt not the right size but the cover was. Sorry won't stay there again

Genuinely gobsmacked with how poor this hotel is. Almost Fawlty Towers-esk. A few of the reasons why I would not recommend this hotel:
1) Mould spores within the bathroom 2) Room stank of paint, possibly as a result of overpainting the mould spores 3) Dirty bedsheets 4) TV was missing a remote and could not be worked by using the TV set, so was essentially an electric ornament 5) Room was incredibly small 6) Not possible to have a bath as the plug in the bath was too small for the hole, so the water quickly drained away 7) Sensor in the bathroom kept going off leaving the room in pitchblackness 8) Online suggested that there was a gym and a restaurant / bar. There is no gym and the restaurant / bar is closed with no idea as to when it will reopen.
Apart from the above, it was fine.

Can’t book in here as they are another hotel chain cashing in on the tax payers money by taking in illegal immigrants… Do not support these companies doing this as it’s us hard working people paying for their refurbishment once they are gone!!!

I've stayed several times and always thought it great value. The decor is a little tired - curtain and liner were both very torn on my last stay - but at the same time the bathroom was spotless and the bed comfortable so for a short break it's ideal. Also all the staff I've come across are really great
