Top class hotel at a reasonable price. The room was very clean and stylish with a spacious balcony having excellent views. The bed was comfy, and staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Great location, and not noisy at all. Bell chimes from the local church were a good touch that added character and not too loud, even with the windows and doors open. Cannot recommend enough.

Clean, comfortable, convenient and safe. Surprisingly pleased with this hotel after reading the negative reviews. Everything looks to be brand new, hotel corridors and rooms seem to have a quirky layout, both bedroom and bathroom extremely spacious. Lots of extras, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, soap, shampoo etc. Tea making. Large screen tv with plenty of channels. Yes, it is a bit noisy, but you are on the Main Street in the centre of town, it’s to be expected. It’s convenience for restaurants, shops etc makes up for this. Only one criticism, I struggled to find one, is that manned reception is over the road and I waited over 5 minutes at 8.30am, but no one was there. ( I wanted to see about the ‘sneaky’ £25 room deposit ).

This is the 5th time I've stayed at St. Nicholas hotel.
The rooms are comfortable, and clean, check in is over at the George.
Staff very helpful and considerate.

The balcony rooms on the 3rd floor are lovely, with a fantastic view.

Breakfast is available at the George Hotel, across the road.
Extremely central to town, with everything you could need within 5 minutes walk, and about a 15 minutes walk from Colchester town station OR 10 minute bus ride from Colchester North Station.

It is possible to navigate with a wheelchair, however electric wheelchair users may struggle to get through doors!
There is only one lift and no ground floor. There is a rescue point with a call button on every floor however.

Like the other reviews for this hotel, it is clean and modern. But unfortunately like other reviews it’s hard to deny the cost and noise. During this current heatwave the most frustrating thing has to be that the room has no air con. However there is a control panel attached to the wall despite it not having any actually electricity attached to it, and no fan or vents in the whole room. Just rubbing salt in to the wound when it is so warm and to have the windows open hardly helps. Unfortunately makes the noise from the high street even worse. This will most probably be my last visit. Disappointed

Very clean and spacious family room for 4, very comfortable stay with young children. Checking in and checking put was straightforward. The only down side was parking, as it was a struggle to find. Our coffee machine also didn’t work very well. Other than that, great stay. Thank you St Nicholas

Supposed to have disabled access, very difficult on your own in manual chair, hotel you book into has no disabled access as one slippy worn step to get down. No access to food, tables in lounge too.low. Hotel was boiling with no aircon! Very noisy.

Unfortunately I was disappointment with our stay in April. The reason for the delayed review is i have been waiting for a response from the hotel, Which i have never received - 5 months on i have still heard nothing!!
It was booked as a valentine gift from my partner, so we could have a kid free evening and uninterrupted sleep. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case as we were woken at 4am by a fire alarm and had to evacuate the building.
Now obviously I understand the seriousness of a fire alarm and sometimes it cannot be helped but it worries me that the reason for the alarm may have been from the room next to us smoking cannabis.
On arrival at 5.30 as soon as the lift doors opened on level 3 the smell was overpowering. I commented to my partner about the smell and we presumed someone may have just arrived also. - we went out enjoyed our night and came back about 9pm - again the smell was still very strong. We also noticed outside on the balcony our next door neighbours always had their door open and the smell was very obvious.
I’m very surprised that a member of staff didn’t patrol the hotel and notice this smell!? Surely this would have been flagged up if a walkabout had of happened? Does someone from The George hotel not come and patrol the hotel at all?
do feel had this of been the case the evacuation could have been avoided.
