Extremely disappointed. Paid in full for a DJ over a month prior to the surprise birthday party. When we arrived there was no DJ set up so we questioned it. We were fobbed off with a story that he was on his way and he thought it was at 7:30pm so could we stall the birthday surprise for a short while! However whilst we were waiting outside we overheard staff saying that it had only been booked up yesterday and we had paid so should have one and they don't know why it wasn't booked before. Obviously the people working on the night had been stitched up and they were flapping at this point, the bouncer was sent over to my husband (probably to try and scare us off a little). However we were then told the DJ had a bereavement and cannot make it after all! I hate being lied to. We demanded our money back for the DJ to which we received. The In house DJ who was already the in the downstairs function room claimed he was resident of just the down stairs room, however little did he know I had previously been to some of his parties in the room we had hired upstairs. After a while of stalling the party the staff put some music on a laptop behind the bar. We were told someone else would come and set up, however no one turned up. There was a John Lewis party booked in the downstairs room. (Obviously more money to be had in that room). So we were left bar unattended quite a lot and felt rather annoyed to be fobbed off. All in all I would not recommend this place to anyone, it was so unorganised and whoever was supposed to have booked the DJ when I paid in full should not be in the job they are doing.

Chose this pub because the price was very reasonable for a one night stay and it looked like a nice place. The staff was very friendly from the beginning and we all had a great chat with each other throughout the night. The room we stayed in was nice, very clean and the beds were comfortable. I met some great people in that pub who even drove me over to the petrol station to buy some drinks once the bar closed, now that's almost literally going the extra mile! I did get very drunk and somehow locked myself out though, but someone let me back in, I also somehow found my way into a closet instead of my room in my drunken stuper, did get back to my room eventually though. All in all, great night, great place, would stay again.

I’m trying to phone the pub to have a chat with maybe a manager or a supervisor, the only number I can find is the OYO number for booking a room... The nice people at the other end of the phone can only read off a script and keep asking if I want to book a room. 🤦🏻‍♂️ As I’m sure you are aware this is mildly annoying to say the very least.
What happened to the good old days when you could just call someone and have the chat that you’re after?
I don’t think this is the right way of running a pub but eh’ what do I know?
Anyway rant over, I guess I’ll just have to pop in for said chat...

12/2019 - no craft ale, atmosphere is totally different after previous owners. Means Steps is one shot deal after 10pm, before that it's town or somewhere else, White hart not an option unless they do better.

The room was awful ...a hole in bed base, electric socket loose, soap dish broken, black mildew all around the bottom of the shower, tap loose in bathroom, rubbish bin filthy also no liner and full of burns. Dirty wet towels for 10 days (not changed ) sheets also, stains on carpet, 3 draws for storage but unable to use due to a desk blocking opening access. springs prodding through mattress very uncomfortable. Fire alarm in ceiling covered with plastic bag /a no smoking sign laid flat.... so ignored.
No doors open for entry although given a key and code that failed to work every evening. The last night i was unable to gain entry, and returned the following morning. I was back at 9pm or before every evening.... although was told at desk....door closed at 10.30.
RUINED MY HOLIDAY.. DISGUSTING.

Wasn't a nice experience. Dirty room, rubbish in corner of room and in wardrobe. The bin in bathroom was full. Bathroom was not clean toilet seat broken. Shower disgusting. Was asked to make my own bed, no mattress protector or pillow protector. Paid £76 for the privilege of staying in this room. Will recommend no-one stays here.
