The hotel is located in a good location for restaurants, the hop on hop off bus, Clifton Suspension Bridge and Observatory. A lot of the old character of the building has been retained but the furnishings could do with an update. The breakfast was tasty and the staff who were on duty, particularly Hannah the receptionist were helpful. However, we booked this very hotel to take my 85 year old Mum to due to his history in our family and this was a nostalgia trip for my Mum. I emailed ahead of time letting them know this, I only had a response from the head office who told me they would forward my email to the hotel.... I had no response. I had hoped whilst we were there a member of the management team would just speak to my Mum.... Nothing, even though we did speak to the receptionist about this. I understand that maybe they didn't know about the history but it would've been a nice touch and would've meant a lot to my Mum. I'm giving the hotel 3 stars due to the furnishings of the room and the lack of customer service from the management.

The two hours we spent in the Rodney Hotel, in what was supposed to be a three night stay. Should explain the disappointment with the hotel. On arriving we couldn't actually get into our room for nearly an hour as it wasn't ready. The staff were apologetic and I understand things happen. When we got into the room. The small room we booked was an understatement. The door wasn't lockable, this was reported. We couldn't even fit onto our bed properly, no double glazing or blackout blinds. And the dire state of the bathroom. With damage to the bath and not cleaned properly. Sorry apart from the location , bar and restaurant it's just not good enough.

Positives:
All staff I encountered were welcoming and superficially polite.
Breakfast good

Concerns:
The build is tired and shabby (not in a chic away)
The room wasn't very clean; dusty, dirty, and didn't smell great, although the window was open. The chair was filthy and strained. (I have photos)
The shower was faulty; politely reported. It needed a straightforward repair (I could have done it myself with some simple tools), but it was not resolved during my 3-night stay, nor was I provided an update as to why or offered an alternative room.
I discovered dirt under the bed (because it slid around easy). I don't believe the room was vacuumed during my stay because this was not cleaned up, although I left the bed in its moved position so it could be easily seen, nor emptied the bins.
Curtains didn't cover the window?! Which affected my sleep ability and woke me up way too early.
Ground coffee in the room was stale; it was grey!

While I appreciate that hoteliers have had a particularly challenging time over the last two years, this does not explain or excuse the lack of basic service.

Here's the rub I did the British thing and said everything was 'fine' at checkout when asked how my stay was; I was in a hurry and wanted to avoid conflict; moreover, I'd already paid!

It was a poor experience, and I won't be booking again. By the way, I was checking out accommodation for long-term booking of groups of 10-12 people meeting 2-4 nights monthly over the next 12-15 months.

Lovely hotel in Clifton, close to shops and cafes and the bus stop is outside. Very helpful and friendly staff. We stayed in comfortable single rooms, small, but they had everything you need for one person. Would definitely revisit with my partner.

Only stopped over for a night for work, but wouldn't return. No lift and very narrow staircases past the main one can be dangerous for those travelling with big bags! The room hadn't seen a clean or a dust for a while, many spiders and the remains of their meals by the window. Impossibly hot, I know there was a fan provided but it did no good. Bath was dirty, overall not a pleasant stay

Small room, dust everywhere, didn't look clean, carpet was threadbare. Breakfast was not included for price of stay. Asked for the room to be cleaned on the second day and it wasn't. Checked out a day before was meant too and was told I would get refunded £99 but was only refunded £50. Wouldn't stay here again.

Booked a room for a friend from New Zealand visiting us here. Our shower and hot water system went down. So booked her here. Wonderful location and a cosy place with many shops and restaurants next door. She was very happy with the stay. Annabel on reception was helpful and charming. Keep up the good work.

Great location and parking on site available available, the area is really nice and it’s only a short walk to lots of cafes/bars/restaurants.
The room was well appointed and very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable.
The staff we met were very professional and pleasant.
Enjoyed a breakfast which was perfectly cooked and very well presented. Hotel is within building of classic architectural design. The en-suite bathroom in our room would benefit from refurbishment but it had everything we needed and it was spotlessly clean, a credit to the housekeeping team.
We enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again if visiting the Clifton area.
Thank you to all the staff for making our stay very pleasant.
