Lovely building, friendly service. The roast beef and roast chicken is up there with the best I’ve had. The meats were a fantastic quality so absolutely no waste, chicken seasoned perfectly. The Yorkshires were amazing, a little sweeter than usual which worked very well. Roasties were perfect and there was about 6 different types of other veg on the plate. The gravy was just right and the horseradish had a decent kick to it. Will definitely return if in the area again.

I have been coming here for many years now and I still look forward to my visit. The rooms are ok and always clean and we'll presented but this place is all about the food. All the components of a good evening are there, an excellent menu with local ingredients, good service and an excellent bar. If you haven't tried it yet and you are in the area it is well worth a visit.

Disappointing. Having had previously good experiences, we booked for a birthday meal with friends. There were 4 adults and one 11 year old in our party. We were made to feel uncomfortable from the outset, and felt the staff were quite 'frosty' towards us. We made the mistake of asking if there were any 'specials' as the menu is quite limited for anyone with special dietary requirements. We were told abruptly 'no'. The waitress was particularly stony faced with us, and we felt as though we were being 'tolerated' rather than welcomed. The two stars we feel is fair, as the food was good, however the service was shockingly rude throughout the whole evening. We felt like the staff were looking down their noses at us for some reason. We'd have to think carefully before returning.

This hotel / English Country pub is just what you need. The team are excellent. The rooms are spotless. Food 10 out of 10. I can't fault it and I didn't plan a visit. I am so happy to say what a find!

We had a lovely lunch here as always. Staff were very attentive without being intrusive. Cozy atmosphere with log fire burning.
Good choice on the menu with great selection of mains and some of the old pub favourites to choose from. I have been going to The Devonshire for many years and have never been disappointed.
You get what you pay for...
Quality ingredients prepared by a chef who cares about his food and pays great attention to detail. Then delivered to the table by pleasant professional waiting staff who know what they are doing and do it well.
A pleasure!

Amazing sausage and mash. A lovely and patient team who were very accommodating of our 18 month old! They even lent us an umbrella for the way back to our air bnb :-)

Didn't stay here so couldn't comment on the rooms but breakfast smelt delicious when I dropped the brolly back.

Family evening meal. Service excellent, food fantastic. Good choice on the menu. A little expensive but very much worth the money.

We were lucky enough to be invited to a family meal to celebrate a birthday, which was in The Stables (private dining). The food and service were exceptional.
