Booked to stay after a day at alton towers, was quite disappointed as a whole. When we arrived we were told that we had booked rooms in the "lodge" which was located just next door, but for £10 we could upgrade and stay in the main building. After paying this and going up to our new room which was located on the top door we were disheartened to see the room was not anything special and was lacking basics like toilet paper and the television was not working. We would have asked to move rooms but the gentleman on the desk told us that it was the last room available in the main building so we stuck with it for the night.

Such a shame as the location is amazing and the reception / downstairs, but the rooms are a total let down.

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The beds were so very uncomfortable. The room was shabby and stained. There were weeds, broken glass and debris in the parking lot. The lobby looks like this used to be a beautiful grand hotel, but it has fallen into the worst disrepair. The front desk employees were nice, but there is no way to make up for the terrible accommodation.

This has to be the most disgusting room I have ever had the misfortune to stay in.
To say that it was filthy is an understatement. The toilet bowl was brown, urine stains around the base of the toilet, cigarette burn on the vanity unit, shower dirty, dilapidated and like something from the set of Psycho! Mentioning that the toilet roll holder was also defunct seems rather petty in the whole scheme of things.
Bedroom - carpet covered in large dark stains and cigarette burns (and I mean covered!), huge urine stains on the mattress, the duvet equally stained, also had the addition of dried blood to add to its charm.
Obviously I was attracted by the beautiful pictures on their website. The main building is lovely, but God help those who are subjected to the accommodation in the Lodge. The only thing that appeared to be missing was a chalk outline of a deceased person.
I have since discovered that it was used as a homeless hostel during the Covid pandemic. If you’re into Breaking Bad rôle play, then this is the place for you. However, if all you require is a clean bed on which to lay your head, you will be sorely disappointed.
The two heavy entrance doors banging throughout the night and early morning was just about the cherry on the cake.
I was tempted to try the restaurant, but having seen the state of the bedroom thought better of it.

We stayed in a top floor room within thr main hotel, superb room. Would've been nice to actually have dinner in the hotel itself. We couldn't see any menus for dinner. A great stay over all though. A peaceful sleep.

Nice Historical Hotel situated in the heart of stone which is like the middle of Uk. Made in 1770s. Bit old but keeping like the historical place, which is recently looking after by new management and they are trying the to do to the best in getting back the old traditions and now a days we can see more changers over the place. They we’re serving Breakfast lunch and dinner. I love the Mexican food 🥘 they serve.Every Sundays there is yummy Sunday roast which is amazing. Rooms in the main building are beautiful and worth money. So people who love ❤️ historical places definitely choose this place for a great stay.

This was an absolutely awful stay.
The bed had springs poking through.
The sink had slime around the taps.
The shower was broken.
Our included breakfast consisted of Coco pops and cheap toast.
When we have tried to discuss this with the hotel they are refusing to respond in any way at all!!
Do not stay here!!

Repare to receive a parking fine if you dare to stay at this hotel. I had a member of staff come out to point out exactly where I could park because it wasn't clear. Now been sent £100 parking fine and they won't answer the phone to resolve it.

Also the rooms are below average and the breakfast service in the morning was rubbish.
