Beautiful little hotel in a picturesque setting! The staff were so friendly and welcoming and even gave us some suggestions for places to visit in the area. I was most pleasantly surprised to find that the TV in bedroom also had Netflix included - great touch which I haven't seen before! There is a fish an chip shop attached to the building where we got dinner, and we were offered plates and such by the hotel staff so we could eat in our room. Breakfast was a help yourself affair, but there was a good variety of options. The facilities were great, quaint little rooms and spacious shower room which is also quite rare. Would absolutely come back and stay again.

Stayed the night during a motorcycle trip with my wife, and had a good time there. Even though understaffed, Ian made us feel very welcome and right at home as soon as we stepped in.
The room was roomy enough to put all our gear out of the way, the shower was great and the location is great. We'll certainly be back!

What a warm and cozy place! I’m not just talking about the hotel itself but also about the welcoming and helpful staff. Everything was perfect and I felt completely at home the whole time we stayed there.

I came down to the reception at 9:30 P.M. asking if there were some cookies and the owner of the place took care of it, asking me what kind I wanted. He personally went to the shop just to buy some for me.

I travel a lot but I never felt so welcomed like this.

If I could I will give 10 stars! ❤️

Really poor I felt, not what I class to be a Hotel and felt misguided really by what I read. Not one to stay again, there is a fish and chip shop on the side of the Hotel so the car park get busy. Thus you have no place to park!
The room was really poor, bed uncomfortable, decorating unfinished and poor workmanship, light switch loose, cable for a light hanging adrift in the bathroom, unsure if the cable is live! Incorrect fitting lid for the toilet cistern, slight challenge filling the kettle from the sink, you have to use the cup! Cable for the blind not secured despite the bracket hanging there and the bed and mattress just looked like it was thrown in the room and the leather pillows done nothing in terms of decor and comfort.
No decent breakfast offered, toast, cereal or fruit salad oh and juice tea and coffee, glad I opted for an evening meal in the local pub. Rather surprised nothing decent was offered, i.e. porridge, eggs, fried brekkie etc. I am sure they have reasons for not offering but disappointed. Very quiet and empty bar area, not a welcoming place, although Ian was very polite and offered to help with my bag on arrival, but that's not what I paid for. Not one for complaining but I hope the owner will act on the views positively. This could be so much in a Village that has a real community feel.

Really nice place, highly recommended for anyone who’s looking for a comfy stay!

I came here with my boyfriend for a long weekend to visit the National Park and the owner of the place really helped and gave us very useful tips!

The room was very clean and had a tv with Netflix as well, really nice to have especially after a day hiking around the hills! The breakfast was continental and full of choices, also for a lactose intolerant like me 😊
Wonderful!

Ian is a lovely host, couldn't do enough. Helpful with dinner reservations and getting us vegan breakfast options. He made us very welcome. We stayed in the family basement apartment which had private entrance , kitchenette, living area and 4 beds (in one room) and 2 shower rooms. Decor was a little tired and green safety nightlights stayed on all night so bring an eye mask if you need darkness to sleep. Breakfast was Continental, each table with it's own toaster, cereals and kettle.

We stayed at the Castle Hotel just before Christmas. The long term staff are fantastic and really friendly. Breakfast is a simple selection of cereals, toast, yoghurt & cheese. Dinner is available from the Fish & chip shop and they do a good selection including the obvious fish & sausages, as well as burgers, chicken & curry. And because it was Christmas they were also doing an amazing battered pigs in blankets. The room was simple but comfy and warm with a very good shower and tea & coffee making facilities. They were very helpful when we emailed them about bringing our dog. I highly recommend the Castle and would definitely return there.

My partner Mark and I stayed at The Castle over New Years Eve. Although the on site restaurant was closed, Ian had suggested places we could eat locally during our communication before our stay. We stayed in room 3 which was a spacious and clean room. The bed was very comfortable and we both slept really well. The curtains were nice and thick and kept the light out allowing us to sleep until we were ready to wake. We had tea and coffee making facilities and the tv had Netflix and was easy to use. Our bathroom was large and bright and with multiple mirrors it was great for putting on make up, there was also a full length mirror by the door. Complementary shower/hair wash was in the bathroom but only a small sample so bring your own if staying for more than one night, perfect for us though.
After our early evening meal we returned to the hotel to enjoy a New Years Eve drink in the bar. Ian had arranged for the bar to be open only for the hotel guests as he was not fully staffed, and this meant it was really personal and relaxed and everyone was able to talk to each other without the sometimes overwhelming feel of a busy bar. Ian made us and our little dog feel very welcome and we will definitely return in the summer.
