Claimed to one of the oldest hotels in the area, but it is in great shape and very well managed with a friendly and helpful efficient staff. Food is good even if the menu is straight forward. Glad I had out of sheer luck choose this hotel.

This place is run down and worn out quite frankly, pictures on Google are very misleading. I felt let down and didnt enjoy our stay. Our room was nothing like what was shown. Food wasn't great, so much so I ditched breakfast on the second morning. The bartender we had on the first night was lovely and really accommodating. We had to wait almost 30 minutes to check in because no one was around. It's an absolute shame as this could be a fantastic place due to it's superb location but it's in desperate need of some TLC I really hope the new owners do something wonderful.

Unfortunately for us they shut the kitchen upon our arrival, so we were unable to get food as residents,(after a 16 hour day not ideal) then the chef called in sick so no cooked breakfast, so can't say anything about the food. As for the room broken panes in both the bathroom and bedroom with the windows propped open with blocks of timber, hopefully it'll be better after the refurbishment,

Lovely staff, can't do enough for you. Hotel is due for refurbishment next year and it does need it. Rooms were clean. Great location and fantastic views.

So let's start with all the great things. First is the location, built into the remains of the castle right in the middle of the town. Everything is within walking distance so nice and easy. The staff we met were all super friendly and helpful......this is a very common attitude around the rural parts of Wales. The room was huge, spotlessly clean, with an enormous bed and the bathroom with a walk-in shower and freestanding roll top bath fantastic. The food in the restaurant was fabulous and not extortionate either. The building has the charm of the old rustic castle, you must take a look in the ballroom what a suprise.....but also a modern twist here and there.....very nicely done.

Now the negatives....not many, and not everyone will view them as negative, so here goes. The building is in parts very old, so no lifts and some floors are uneven or sloping....just a feature of very old properties. The general upkeep of the decor seems to have slipped here and there, nothing major or enough to stop you having a wonderful stay, but I can see some people nit picking at the attention to detail. Now, on the up side, the owners are using the off-season to start a refurbishment to all the rooms and public areas, and that will obviously address the little touch-up issues that are needed in what must be a very challenging building to maintain due to some of its age.

I have given the hotel a 4 star review based on a one night stop over stay, eating in the restaurant in the evening and having breakfast in the morning......this was amazing, the bacon and sausages were superb.

I am sure that when I visit again, I will be able to give the extra star once the refurbishment is completed.

All the staff were lovely and the stay was superb so that part was worth 5 stars, really enjoyed it, well worth a visit passing through or as a base to explore the Breacon Beacons and beyond

This was just an overnight stay.... Thankfully. Firstly the staff is this hotels redeeming features, they are lovely and so helpful.
My friend has arthritis and there was no lift which to the first floor which is definitely a negative.
Three of us shared a room, it wasn't a bad size, but the overall state of the room was very tired and in desperate need of an overhaul.
Wardrobe for 3adults was a joke.
Beds were clean and comfortable..
And the bathroom was roomy and nicely decorated.
Bottled water tea, coffee and chocolate was a nice touch.
Not enough plugs for phone charging.
Going to try the restaurant later... See how that goes? Previous reviews mixed? I hope the refurbishment goes ahead it desperately needs it and then it would be a lovely place.

This hotel was incredibly helpful with our dogs. They didn't seem annoyed with them even with they inadvertently tracked mud in the lobby. Staff is incredibly friendly and the rooms are lovely. Water pressure was lacking and hot water was hit or miss in the shower (but always available in the bathtub).

The breakfasts were excellent and Sue, the waitress in the restaurant, was an absolute pleasure to see each morning. She made our stay from great to excellent and we will be returning to this hotel specifically to see Sue again. Definitely worth the price.

We loved our stay in Castle Hotel Brecon. The room / cottage was clean, comfortable and spacious. I loved that they provided all the necessary toiletries and the kitchen was equipped with supplies. All the staff from reception to restaurant were very welcoming and friendly. Shout out to Sue who’s been very charming and accommodating to us every morning during breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel. Excellent stay and customer service.
