First time I've ever been charged for tap water at any restaurant. Would suggest sticking to the takeout joints if you're looking for a half decent halal joint. Cafe 36 which is close by would be one to try as an alternative.
The lad that served us was polite and friendly, gave us a glass for our beer (you have to take your own alcohol).
Poppadoms with a pickle tray to start, then the wife had chicken tikka shaslick with jalfreizi sauce.
I tried the 'kalia', after it was recommended by the waiter, both dishes were excellent.
The young girl who cleared the table was lovely, as were all the staff.
Next time we're in caernarfon, we will definitely return
So before I begin it is worth pointing out that this place does not serve alcohol and by the looks of previous reviews, not served them for some time but you can bring your own.
Served by a young lady and rather order my usual safe meal I asked her if she could recommend the mains for me but emphasised that I do like not overly hot spicy meal, like a vindaloo, I was duly corrected that spice and heat were two different things which is right....silly me.
She recommended Kalta Lamb but would ask the chef to make it slightly spicy...sorry hot for me, great. I also ordered King Prawn Butterfly and some poppadoms with pickle tray, Chilli Naan and egg fried rice.
The poppadoms were well poppadoms what can you say, the dips were a nice array of dips with different tastes but would loved it if it included spicy onions.
So after a light starter, my starter starter were the Butterfly King Prawns coated in breadcrumb with a sprinkle of Coriander leaves and garnished with lettuce tomato and cucumber (and a wedge of lemon). Come on what's with the garnish...sooo old fashioned. Ok I was hoping the KP coatings had some spice through it, but no. Thank goodness I still had the dips. On their own they taste like any ordinary fried KP. they were juicy and tasty enough but could had added spice to it or an India spice dip!!!
Main course the Kalta Lamb, a very tasty dish. So since I have never had this meal before I cannot really compare it to anything I have had before but it was very good. The lamb meat pulled apart so easily and tasted fantastic-melting in my mouth. The sauce, in my opinion, reminded me of rich gravy with onions through it. Personally I thought it lacked spice and heat (even though she later confirmed she had asked the chef to add heat into it). I used some of the chilli in the naan bread to add some heat. The naan bread was good, nice fluffy and gorgeous to chew.
I also ordered a portion of egg fried rice, possibly one of best egg fried rice I've had in an Indian.
So negative points....Men - don't go to the toilet before having your meal. The place looks like a pub conversion judging the looks of the urinal. It still has the appearance and odour and looking at the wall, as its what I'm staring at at the time (lol), I see traces of dried blood...remains of a bar fight?
The lower walls had chunks in it which could had been repainted during the restrictions. Anyway its all about the food and staff which is all good. I would come back but maybe avoid the toilets.
