Nice walk along the river Colne as it meanders across its grassy floodplain. Just be aware there are cattle in the fields, but these are mostly harmless.

Beautiful natural walking place alongside a river. Note: no toilets or facilities here.
As you pull up in your car, you can see the tennis club to your right with activities going on there. Walk along the path and through the first gate and you really wouldn't believe you were 5 minutes away from.the town centre!
From here you can stay to the left and walk along the path, often quite muddy, so wear appropriate shoes, walking all the way to the path/small lane. Cross over there( near the bridge) and there is a lovely drop point to the river where the dogs or kids can paddle or swim, on a sunny day it's stunning.
Then to head back to the car cross over the walk bridge and follow the field and river back to the bridge where you started. It's about an hour walk unless you stop to play, which then takes much longer 😊.
Be aware in the spring summer months there may be cattle around.

This place in the spring and summer is absolutely beautiful. Its definitely one for a lovely dog walk with the family.

Beautiful place! Lots to explore! There's even a place with picnic tables.

Lovely, peaceful place. Nice spot by the bridge to paddle or swim in the river (Kids, not really deep enough for adults!)

As a family we visit regularly to walk and river swim. The cows and sheep graze the fields at certain times of the year so that is always a nice time to go. The river is clean and we have been enjoying swimming in it for 5 years now. There are picnic areas further along the trail. Lots of fields and trails to walk and 1 path leads you to a wooded area which is beautiful. Only downside is no parking unless you are lucky to park in the layby close by which can hold about 4 cars

Unspoilt expanse of watermeadows stretching around the northern side of the town but within the area of the mainline railway to North Station. The location is only several miles south of Dedham village, & Cymbeline Meadows does have a similar feel to the cattle grazed riverbank paths there. Very tranquil, rural escape for what is within easy walking distance of Colchester town centre...

I came here twice this week, on sunny days, after several weeks of dry weather. This meant I was free to roam, not restricted to paths. I suspect that it is pretty muddy for much of winter and spring. The River Colne was in great shape and I was excited to find an Egret right in front of me, searching for fish. I came across a few dog walkers (there is a marked one a half mile round walk) and on the valley slope a farmer was ploughing his field. One walker told me to look out for a Kingfisher, which someone else had spotted. I cycled here, but I did notice a small parking area accessed from Bakers Lane.
