ATTN: BANGOR STUDENTS DO NOT GO TO THIS SURGERY. The treatment I received here was horrifying.

This story is just the tip of the iceberg after having gone back and forth for days calling and being told different things from different people, sometimes contradictory things from the same person.

The University referred me to this office as a health center for students. The receptionists and doctor I spoke with were both incredibly rude, did not listen to my concerns, spoke over me, disrespected me, at one point of the receptionists condescendingly asked me if I knew how to use the internet, then said I should submit a request from their website. When I did, they immediately called me to tell me that I needed to call back at 8 am for a same day appointment. I did this and never received a call. When I finally called them they told me they had the wrong number for me - despite having called me before - and then took down my number again. They never called again. I spoke to someone at the University's student services about how they've been running me around, and she called and spoke to someone who said again they'd call. I never received a call. Finally after calling again they put me through to a doctor who told me contradictory information and then cut me off and shouted over me as I simply said excuse me, excuse me please sir may I talk, and he just shouted over me. Finally he stopped and said he wasn't allowing me to speak because he had heard what I had to say. I said I hadn't said everything I had to say and when I was finally given the opportunity to speak, he immediately interrupted me, so I gave up.

I've seen all the reviews since and regret registering with this office and will be trying to find a different one.

If you are a Bangor student, you'd be better off finding a different office. You'd be better off travelling an inconvenient distance than dealing with these monsters. I'm from the USA and this is the single worst experience I've ever had with medical professionals.

Horrifying.

The University should not be telling students to register with this doctor.

I have nothing but positive experiences to share about Bodnant Surgery.
I don’t often need the doctor but whenever I’ve needed support I’ve filled in the e consultation and been offered a telephone consultation a day or two later. I’ve never had an issue being seen in person and following the telephone consultation I have always been asked to come in in person the same day.
Once seen in person I’ve always been treated with respect and taken seriously and a thorough history is taken along with blood work completed.
A successful diagnosis is always made in conclusion.
I’ve been with Bodnant Surgery for 32 years and never had a single issue.
Recently I saw Dr Asha who was excellent.
I’ve always found the receptionist to be polite and helpful.
GP surgeries often get bad reviews as people feel they should have different treatment to what the professionals know they need and this annoys them. It doesn’t reflect on the practice and seem to be a recurring theme these days.

DO NOT REGISTER HERE

My partner registered here and has been trying to see someone for an urgent medical issue. The receptionist has been extremely rude, condescending, inept and totally unhelpful. My partner finally got to speak to a doctor on the phone, which was a mission in itself because they don't seem to know how to operate their own phone system, and the doctor was not only rude but gave contradictory information in the same conversation. I have never in my life heard a doctor speak to someone like that. I am speechless, I don't understand why it's acceptable to treat people like this. This place should not be allowed to continue operating as it is; the thought of someone vulnerable going to them for help and receiving this kind of treatment makes me feel sick. Absolutely horrific.

Would not recommend this surgery.
I have been a patient with Bodnant surgery for 4 years and unfortunately unless I see things change I will be moving surgery. The two main issues I have had are regarding receiving information from receptionist working in the surgery and how mental health issues are approached. In early summer of this year I had to utilise the surgery to arrange professional help for my mental health for the first time in my life. Reaching out for help regarding mental health issues is already such a daunting time in anyones life and I’m disappointed to say that the reaction I had from the surgery over the past number of months have made it an even worse experience. Initially I received very little help from one of your GPs I tried my best to advocate for myself but was unfortunately not felt I had been listened to and as it had being a telephone consultation this makes discussing such vulnerable thoughts that but more difficult. Due to this unpleasant experience when I became even more unwell mid summer I unfortunately had to be brought to the emergency department in YG. Here I thankfully received extremely good help however it’s help I could have received in the GP had I been listened to and supported correctly by Bodnant surgery initially. As someone who works in healthcare I am fully aware of the strain they are under at the moment and I believe GP surgeries are unfortunately one of the factors leading to this strain, as many people such as myself are opting for utilising the emergency department due to not receiving appropriate care in our local GP surgeries. I have now been utilising Bodnant surgery to receive my medication and this is were my second issue lies.
As I had never been on a repeat prescription before I was unaware of the correct way to go about receiving it monthly. I filled out an e consult days in advance to ensure I’d have my medication on time as it’s one I can’t go a day without or I will receive very debilitating side effects. When I hadn’t heard back from the e consult I was worried I would not receive my medication on time so I went to the GP surgery and filled out one of your repeat prescription forms at the front desk which was self explanatory however when I asked if I need to come to the GP to collect a script or if it will automatically be sent to my local pharmacy I was extremely appalled by the responses I had gotten. I was dealt with in a manner that belittled me and made me feel extremely stupid. All I wanted was clear instructions on what I need to do. I was told to come back in 48 hours and it would be ready. So with that information I rang the surgery as instructed 48 hours later and got rudely told that I’m to check the pharmacy first and only contact the gp if it isn’t there. This is absolutely fine but had these steps being made clear to me when I had simply asked it would have caused no issue in the future. I completely appreciate how overwhelmed the whole system is and how difficult it must be in these times however a little bit of empathy from your receptionists and clear instructions on what patients need to do to access services would make it run more smoothly. I now have extreme anxiety every month when my repeat prescription is due as I always worry I will be met with the same rude attitude. From speaking with other individuals I know this isn’t an experience I’m alone in and also the reviews on google reflect the same issues unfortunately. I really hope this can be brought forward in a investigation and resolved as the public really rely on this service to provide them vital support.

I have been left very upset once too often after a phonecall with a particular lady regarding repeat prescriptions, and her lack of clear consistent instructions/information.
I ordered a repeat prescription twice in under a fortnight in error due to being told by a surgery receptionist that there was no record that I had ordered it the first time round.
When I called to ask if my new request had been received, I was told that I shouldn't be requesting it again as it had just been dispensed the week before (I didn't know this and had not picked it up as I had previously been told that one hadn't gone through). Before I could understand what had gone wrong and sort it out, she put the phone down. I then received a text request to contact the GP to "discuss the usage of my medication" a few days later, despite knowing I was confused with the ordering method as a new patient which was causing all the issues. Every ounce of info/instruction I have received has been contradictory and and confusing and I haven't felt able to ask again about it after she hung up the last time.
As a pregnant newly diagnosed diabetic and normally being on a long term medicine which cause dangerous withdrawal symptoms if suddenly discontinued, the worry of having constant issues with repeat prescriptions (and not being able to order in advance incase you get told off) and running out of things is a risk I was not prepared to take so I have changed to a different surgery.
I have otherwise always found the GPs and nurse to be excellent, as well as all of the other receptionists so this is a big shame.

Would give less than a one star. Called to see if I could see a doctor because I have ear issues and constant infections, I’m dealing with one know and they told me to try again later as they yelled at me that it was my fault I didn’t have a number and they wouldn’t even try to see me even when I offered to pay out off pocket. I’m from America and maybe that’s why I was so disrespected even if that’s the case I pay for health insurance here, I should get health care.
