Visited Saturday lunch time as we were given a voucher for Christmas, had never been before. It was a set menu and there was more choice than I expected and some lovely things to choose from. The restaurant is lovely and we both really enjoyed our food. I had mussels to start (delicious sauce and not gritty at all) and grilled seabass for main course, it was spot on. My husband had king prawns for starter which he did have a slight niggle with (burnt pieces - which he did mention to staff) and fish and chips for main which he said was lovely. The wine that came with the set menu was surprisingly good too! A niggle for me, when asked if we'd like some water on the table, we weren't expecting it to be almost £5.. water on the table is usually complementary where we're from. The staff were all very nice, in particular the man that told me how I could make the mussels sauce at home. We both left full and happy - we would definitely return!

The three of us were so looking forward to eating at Loch Fyne, as it had been recommended to us and we all like fish. Unfortunately, I struggle to find anything nice to say about the food here.
Starters. We had the salt and pepper squid, halloumi fries, and mussels (a special that day). As you can see from the photographs, the portions were minute - made to look even tinier by the oversized plates they were served on - and the flavours of the fried items was nothing to write home about. Moreover, the muscles were absolutely miniscule - you could seriously buy bigger at a supermarket - and we were not given a bowl for shells... The "tomato" sauce they were swimming in seemed to be comprised merely of oil and red colouring - it tasted of nothing. The muscles came with two pieces of bread - great for sharing between three people(!)
Mains. I had megrim, salsa verde, dauphinoise potatoes and a green salad. The fish was flavourless, a little rubbery and the amount of salsa verd - the only way to add flavour - provided was insufficient for coating a gill... The potatoes lacked the creaminess you want from dauphinoise and I couldn't add salt because we only had two pepper grinders on the table. he "green salad" was a joke: some leaves and chopped cucumber. A friend had the special - a tiny piece of halibut which was (surprise surprise) also flavourless and dry. Nothing special about it! The third in our group had linguine and was disappointed that they had no parmesan cheese - who serves pasta without offering parmesan?
Drinks. Overpriced.
Venue/service. Freezing cold - I put my coat back on and none of the staff seemed to notice (or, if they did, care). Was quite annoyed when staff held a conversation with a guest literally behind my seat - could not even hear the person across the table from me. Lastly, though our server introduced herself by name at first, our server seemed to change without notice or introduction - and was difficult to get the card machine at the end when we simply wanted done with the place.
Cost. Overpriced. Three starters, three mains, two alcoholic drinks, one non-alcoholic £123.80 (insane price). Insane.

One of the most disappointing things in life is when you read glowing reviews of a place, arrive, and find that the experience is the complete opposite of what you read

I was craving some fish and chips and decided to walk to Lock Fyne because of the reviews - good service and food. To my horror, my experience was anything but that

= Badly seated and neglected =
The first red flag I got was when I was seated in a dingy corner of the restaurant, even though there were many other seats around. Because I was in a dingy corner, the servers couldn't see me and it was only by flailing about that I manage to catch their attention

= Horrible fish and chips =
I ordered the fish soup and battered cod (see attached photos). The fish soup was good - no complaints. What I had problems with was the battered cod, which arrived in a dark brown coloration instead of what one would expect, i.e. golden batter. It was also a lot denser than what I'd expect from a battered fish. Upon eating the fish, I was met with a flat and oily but tasteless piece of fish. This happens when the oil isn't hot enough and the batter absorbs too much of the oil. I didn't finish my meal

= Getting lectured =
I gave my feedback on the location and food to the waitstaff on duty, Deniz/Georgia, and she argued that I was placed in that corner because of the air conditioner, but that air conditioner wasn't even cold and the lamp right on top of me was in fact hot

She then lectured me that I could ask for a change of seat whenever I wanted. What audacity! I could not really see the rest of the restaurant because I was hidden away, and neither of the waitstaff came to ask how I was apart from giving me food. One of them even had the cheek to ask if I wanted to donate 1 pound for charity

= Conclusion =
While I received a generous 20% off for the poor experience and another 25% on my next visit, I don't think any amount would make me want to return here. I absolutely regret coming here for my dinner

Had an absolutely fantastic meal here yesterday! Myself and 4 friends had booked a table, when we called to reserve we were told at that moment they had no outdoor tables available but they would try to arrange something by the time we were due to arrive, sure enough, a lovely table outdoors (Thank you again dears!).
Deniz had been our main server, she was so considerate and attentive, when it'd started to drizzle she wasted no time in getting us shifted to a table indoors (the outdoor area is not covered/sheltered). Her bubbly demeanour made the experience all the more enjoyable alongside the fantastic food! Only my second time coming to Loch Fyne, but already can't wait to arrange a third visit!
Thank you again to all the servers, and especially Deniz! You were a star!
Also a big thank you and well done to the chefs! The food was brilliant!

Cosy seafood focused restaurant. The Scottish oysters were the highlight. Larger and plumper than New England oysters. The grilled lobster did not appear to be grilled and the chili lime butter if that is what it was served with was bland. The French fries are excellent.

Omg....the oysters...wow. We visited on a day when the bogo oyster deal was happening and it is only due to my husband that I did not wipe them out. The best oysters I've ever had! Meaty, buttery, didn't taste like the sea. I'll be dreaming of them.

We also ordered drinks and appetizers to share among 4 -- (lots of) oysters with 3 sauces (wasabi was my favorite), smoked salmon, and scallops. Service was pleasant and quick. Nice ambiance inside. Overall a very nice unexpected detour!

I’m a big fan of seafood 🦞 and if I could recommend one place in Cambridge to experience nice fresh seafood I always recommend Loch Fyne.
I have chosen mix as I wanted to try a bit of everything. Menu is very nice and place is accessible for wheelchairs! Once You informed about visit the back door will be ready open with staff member to help. Definitely recommend. Leave 👍🏽 if this information was useful ☺️ Enjoy!

Tried the fish soup, fried cuttlefish and mackerel for mains. Not bad. The cuttlefish was the most memorable. Was hoping to order oysters and mussels but they were unavailable that day. Slick service and lovely cosy ambience.
