Nelsons Bar

Lovely bar, great menu, particulaly the Sunday lunch options. Fantastic selection of alcoholic and soft drinks. Clean and spacious bathrooms. Plenty of parking outside.

Very nice. Hot fresh tasty food. Pleasant service. Worth a visit for lunch.

Service was as expected from a quality hotel. At a very busy time the food was very good. . Maybe my main meal could have been hotter. My seafood starter had courgette strips on it which I thought unnecessary. Good pint of local bitter came a little slow as the barrel went. All in all a very good experience. My 2 sons who are vegan were very impressed with the food

We had a very pleasant evening but we did not appreciate seeing another customer sat a the bar with his dog sat actually on the bar! He was also sneaky smoking an e cigarette. The management needs to deal with this & for the record we love dogs and have had dogs for many years. Hope this is resolved before our next visit.

Gone downhill massively the last couple of times I have eaten here. Recently came in for the chicken Katsu curry and it was awful. Prawn crackers were stale and the breaded Katsu chicken was tough and over cooked. Used to love this place as it's dog friendly and has a relaxed vibe but food quality and portions will make me think again about coming back!

Had a lovely meal here in December with my husband, enjoyed so much we took family as a Christmas gift this evening. Lovely!

Shame ive had to post this review we stay at the Grosvenor pulford alot and have eaten there in the palms many times
I complained in a private email to the ops manager about a issue we had and they have chosen to ignore that email so now i will publish the complaint publicly !!

Myself and my wife Carole Hincks were booked in for a meal last night at 8pm with yourselves in the Nelson bar , we normally eat in the Palms but this was not available so we booked for the Christmas Fayre menu instead ,
We were shown to our table which was in the main restaurant area by the front window and was looking forward to a nice relaxing romantic meal with my wife .
Unfortunately the experience was spoilt by the fact that because the match was on ,the bar staff seemed to think that having the volume from the large screen to max was conducive to a nice relaxing atmosphere and that everyone in the restaurant wanted to know and hear the game step by step , this obviously was not right
I’m also sure that the guest in the restaurant area that were struggling to hear each other would also disagree and the couple next to us also commented on the sound being too load.

I eventually could not tolerate not being able to hear my wife and complained to one of the staff, and commented on the restaurant being turned in to a sports bar and they eventually turned down the volume to a more acceptable level,
I’m sure that a sports bar is not the sort of appeal you are looking for after the recent investment in the restaurant area ?However I do think that the staff need to be more considerate in their approach on match days .
I would also like to make a suggestion that he opening in the restaurant by the window could be screened or even blocked up , this would achieve the restaurant area being enclosed and would stop noise pollution from the bar area affecting the atmosphere in the restaurant .

The meal itself was very good and mirrored the Xmas dinner we had in the palms at the start of the month , the brandy pudding was a little hard in the middle and dry , I suspect left too long in the microwave ? otherwise we enjoyed the food , just a shame about the atmosphere.

Myself and my wife visit and stay with yourselves multiple times a year so I feel that taking a little time to give you “truthful feedback “ is important.

Great customer service pity your lack actions let down the whole hotel and not just the Nelson bar .

Comfortable mix of lounge chairs and semi-formal dining tables and chairs. Very friendly & hospitable staff. Good quality food and reasonably (hotel) priced drinks
