May 2017: Panopticon Atom. Pendle's Atom lies above Wycoller village and is a ferro-cementstructure. It has a surface coating of a metal based paint. The viewing point shelter frames spectacular views. Part of the REMADE in Lancashire programme and one of 4 panopticons. Completed in 2006.
UpdateJune 2022: damaged by vandalism

Such a simple building on the hottest day; 37° this was a lovely cool haven. The air inside was refreshingly cool with the breeze blowing through. I recommend a break here.

Beautiful serene setting, visited on a slightly breezy but sunny afternoon. I drove to the car park on my way home after work - I'd wished instead I'd walked to it to enhance the experience. The car park had plenty of spaces and was fairly accessable. Interior doesn't have much to offer and understandably a little untidy inside. Would make a interesting location for an 'out of world' experience.

An interesting sculpture and landmark with some lovely views on the road to Haworth. I'd seen it from Wycoller, down in the valley below, probably a good 15 minute climb for someone fitter than me but there is ample parking if you're not. I've deliberately chosen my photos so they don't spoil the surprise of discovering the highly imaginative* post installation impromptu graphical decorations.

*Not imaginative at all. Expect your newly literate kids to ask challenging questions.

Its an absolute lovely, open wide country land, lots to explore, the history of the atom is also mind blowing :) definitly recommended. It also leads to the wycoller country park just down the path way (which ever you choose) haveing toiletries, a cafe for beverages ect and benches to relax on.
