The Optimist Tavern

A friend recommened me to come here. First time being here. Nice place. Plenty of free customer parking. Went there at 12 for lunch. You can queue at the bar to order or I used the app to order and pay for food and drinks to the table and everything was great. Only 2 hour timeslot for a table given.

Food came quick, been really craving a Sunday roast out for so long! I had the Turkey roast, with a Cappuccino and Salted Caramel millionaire gold bar for dessert. The roast was cooked so well! Carrots are soft instead of rock hard like other places and sufficient amount of gravy. I'll be coming back again another time.

We were made very welcome and, given that we were a group that finished up at 30+, were accommodated with an area in the bar, rather than a table.

The service was excellent as was the food.

The advantage for us was that our group were all eating and drinking at different times and this didn’t faze the staff or kitchen at all. Also, it didn’t, I hope, put anyone else out in terms of us blitzing the kitchen and making everyone else wait.

I was especially grateful to the landlady, who helped me sort out the complete hash that I had made of trying to book on line. It was only an issue as there were, potentially, so many of us.

All in all an exceptional afternoon with friends and family, remembering our son, an exceptional young man.

First time eating at the Optimist, passed by a lot and tried to go for an early evening meal on a Thursday eve with my daughter, didn’t know we had to book. So I booked a table for 2 for last night, Friday 5th November. I told the bar man that I had booked a table for 2, to which I was told it was ‘over there’..wasn’t greeted or shown to our table. We ordered food at the bar, the woman was very polite and friendly. Our food was lovely, I went with a recommendation..very nice. We chatted while we were eating our starters and a young lad came over to ask if we ‘were done?’.. Such a shame as the food ans atmosphere were good..but no customer service at all. Maybe the lads that work the bar ans restaurant need a little training. Apart from that it was a pleasant evening.

The Optimist Tavern is set back from the roadside in a leafy enclave that you could easily believe is in deep countryside if you didn't know it is actually on the outskirts of London.

Inside, the pub is spacious but has many cosy nooks and comfortable corners. The staff are welcoming and helpful, especially Dave, and the menu offers a wide selection of hearty pub favourites, such as fish and chips, and steak and Guinness pie, as well as curry and vegetarian and vegan options. Dishes are well presented and tasty. We particularly enjoyed the chicken, bacon and avocado salad, and we've loved our many visits.

First visit. Food was OK. Disappointed only 1 beer on. Quite a few cigarette buts in the garden, but inside was OK (with a dog).
Second visit for lunch, with dog again. Enjoyed the food. Staff friendly and efficient. Pity they didn't have London Pride on.

Really great food here. My Husband and I enjoyed it so much, the staff were very welcoming and the food was just amazing. Can't wait to come back 😋

Only one bitter on draught. Barman stated that it was because they had to sell the Christmas ale as had a short shelf life. Very bizarre. Guinness sold in non standard glasses and without any care.

It doesn't appear that the pub is that concerned about standards

Haven't been to this venue for ages and was pleasantly surprised by the difference since last time.

The venue had a very nice ambience - service, staff and food excellent. Would not hesitate to return or to recommend this venue. A very enjoyable lunch.
