This pub is difficult to reach: the drive way of narrow and it is a bit of a diversion from the south downs way along a restricted bridleway. The people are quite friendly though, allowing a tab and serving tasty food (although the pie was a bit watery the crumble with custard was awesome). They have good seating outside. There are at least two bridleways leading to the pub, one from telegraph house and the other from the farm. This means that instead of doing beacon hill you could divert past the pub.

A wonderful country pub. Great food and very friendly helpful staff who make you feel very welcome. In the middle of nowhere down a country lane, fine in daylight but slightly scary in the dark. But don't be put off, it's well worth going. Picturesque gardens and surrounding woods and hills made me feel I had gone back in time and the large open log fire was the icing on the cake.

An amazing find. If you can find it you'll have the best of times. Enthusiastic, cheerful and patient staff. Lovely food, lovely drinks in an English oasis. Please try and visit, you won't regret it. The jerk chicken was better then any I've had in my local West London.

Hidden away within the South Downs National Park is this little gem of a place. We went with friends as it was their local. Lovely quaint 16th century country pub. Good for walks nearby. There's a beer garden with lots of tables and parasols. Tasty pub food and drinks thanks to Dave, and Sarah the cook. A free house with real ale available, three being local ales.
Undoubtedly this could well become our local too! What's not to like.

I have not yet had the pleasure of eating here however on a number of occasions I have dropped in for a drink whilst out walking. The pub is in a beautiful and peaceful location. The staff were friendly and welcoming despite the state I was in after walking in the heat all day.
I would also like to add this pub is home to the best fruit cider I have ever drank.

Proper pub, secluded and peaceful place. Really friendly and well kept beers including 3 real ales at time of visit. Perfect stop after/during a lovely country walk

I met a ghost. He offered me one of his cheesey moments and we played dominoes over a bottle of brandy. This pub is an oasis of wonderment in a valley of mystery.

Bank Holiday treat on our hike on the SDW. A wonderful warm cosy rest unexpectedly open for the holiday. Very kind staff & dog friendly.
