Visited The Optimist a few weeks ago but quite not an optimistic experience.
During my walk in the town centre, I was tempted to try this place because of its chic exteriors and I was quite impressed the day I visited by its interiors too. Though it is very quiet for lunch, it surely gives off some good and cozy vibes.
I went for the calamari strips as starter which was so crunchy, crispy and tasty with the tartare sauce.
As the main course, I wanted to try the burger and opted for the chargrilled chicken fillet, which came with curly fries and slaw. The burger is served in a toasted brioche-style linseed bun with a signature burger sauce, lettuce and red onion but much to my disappointment, the fillet was quite dry with barely no sauce.
On a good note, the service is satisfactory and rapid.

Disgusting, I used to love this place, today I got this as my salad, when I told to the waitress that I am not happy with the salad, she was like yeah I know sorry
Seemed that she didn’t care and didn’t give any interests

Was pretty quiet on Sunday night (before bank holiday). Music was still very loud as if they had a full dance floor... felt a bit strange. Place looks OK, and might be good if there was anyone there to make an atmosphere!

Fairly generic chain-type pub. Food not bad. Better than a Wetherspoon.

Re the reply from The Optimist (always encouraging when businesses bother to respond). Not a negative experience at all (apart from a woman allowing her child to play a game on a tablet at full volume and that's hardly the fault of the pub). We had an ok time and our meals were fine. We've needed to be in Northampton frequently recently and have been trying different places. 3* is not a bad review. We'll probably return although our preference is normally for less chain-type places. You don't want to see my 1* reviews if you thought that was bad 😀

Lovely food at a good price. The place has a good comfy layout and the staff were kind and helped with getting by little one an extra plate so we can share our food with her 💖

Great place to go out at the weekend, live DJ and amazing shot deals. Lunch menu was cheap and cheerful too, honestly can’t complain at all. Amazing service all around. Would definitely recommend!!
