Fantastic service! Knowledgeable, friendly and with literally decades of experience as a keen cyclist and mechanic.

Went in for a suspected bottom bracket fixture, but he was honest - said it wasn't the issue and just tightened the pedals to stop that annoying clicking! Really appreciated not having to shell out on something not needed. :)
He also replaced two worn brake pads, the gear cables and a broken reflector. Quick turnaround, no fuss and reasonably priced.

Definitely would recommend Chris, certainly above the bigger stores - too many times I've had so-called mechanics fitting tyres the wrong way round.

I think he's also the only UK seller of the renowned VSF range (my bike is the T-700). Lots of interesting old vehicles in his store, including vintage Sunbeams that he's doing up.

Went for a flat tube repair. Chris did a work in 10 minutes and we had a good talk after. I live in this city more than 8 years and I don't know how did I missed his shop. Excellent customer service, unbeatable prices and he just got a new customer. He is my first new best bike repair man!

Bike has cantilever brakes which are a bit annoying so decided to take to Chris. Went on a Saturday afternoon to get an estimate of what work needed doing with the idea of bringing it back in the week as I need it the next day. However Chris was happy to give it a go that afternoon (new chain, block, brake cable, blocks and cantilever adjustment so a decent sized job). Returned 3 hours later and he was done, at a reasonable price and with friendly service. My decades old bike feels like new!

My new favourite local bike shop; I'll be back for all my repair/maintenance needs. Chris had no qualms taking in my esoteric belt-driven eBike for a spoke repair which ended up taking most of his afternoon. Returned a few hours later and the now repaired bike was returned to me with a smile and kind words. Absolutely recommend.

I found Chris very unhelpful when I enquired about buying a bike on the cycle to work scheme, it all seemed too much trouble for him. I needed a proper written quote but he refused to provide this, all I got was a number written down on a scrap of paper which was useless as I could of done this myself! He wouldn't even let me see the bike I was interested in buying. My recommendation: avoid.

Come on Chris, it is a simple question. Will you give me a written quote ?

This is an interesting response from the owner. He gets a review he doesn't like and rather than addressing the issues that prompted the bad review he resorts to name calling. This is probably more likely to put off potential customers than my original review! Yes, he is right, my visit to his shop was several years ago but that doesn't alter the fact that my description of what happened is 100% accurate.

His initial response was to question if I was a real person, so in effect denying that our exchange had even taken place. In the intervening time he has failed to answer the question about written quotes. Sorry Chris, I am going to leave the review here until you answer that simple question.

This is an interesting sales technique from the owner, name calling and thinly veiled threats along the lines of: 'come in to my shop if you have the guts!'

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend! Chris is a great man and provides a reliable, efficient and affordable service. I am someone who would go out of my way to buy parts and spend time doing my own repairs but since discovering this bike shop I haven't needed to - have been back 3 times now and pleased every time. It's been refreshing, not needing to worry!

Friendly shop, sane, easy-going atmosphere , sensible owner and great service. Chris did an excellent job of reviving my weary, shamefully neglected, Evans' Pinnacle. I'd been quoted twice as much at another place but got the same work done here for a very reasonable rate. Oh and Chris also confirms my belief that all good bike guys answer to a one syllable name. I've had various bikes worked on by Jim in Vancouver, Bob in Whitefish, Montana and Dan in Lewes, it seems to be a bit of a rule!
