Last I ventured into this part of Camden, the shop had bikes parked outside, a firework of colors including little girls pink and purple tricycles/ bikes with stabilisers, colorful front baskets and rainbow ribbons flying from the handles.
I needed a new saddle ( had it in my backpack!) fitted so I can get back on the road; the two men in the shop were each dealing with a customer. The younger looking gentleman , yellow t-shirt and a baseball cap, acknowledged me by a hand wave and :" I will be with you Madame asap!" I parked my sad and saddles wheal companion close to the door entrance encouraged by the acknowledgment and the friendly face; I had a look around - this was a far cry from the previously described shop! The shades of charcoal, black , navy.....The bikes lined up in two rows in the middle of the shop look more like wheel warriors at the ready! Indeed a customer being attended to was a look-alike of a Gladiator character ( played by Russel Crowe!) holding onto black, powerful looking wheal beast. This Alice , i.e. me, was not lost in Wonderland, but more like in a smaller version of Core bike show meets Brands Hatch of the bicycle world!
Throughout the 20 min or so of waiting the kind man kept me updated, made me feel not forgotten, even though he was attending to another customer with her bike; the people entering the shop were all looking very fit, some fully kitted in what was looking like ready for the Tour de France.
When the man eventually came to me ( I was comfortably googling on the previously offered seat) to say that a bicycle mechanic is coming to fit my saddle , he apologized for keeping me waiting. The new saddle was fitted in a flush! In good hands, tools perform well and fast!
I offered to pay for the service and the man refused, saying that I was their good deed for the day! He opened the door and I pushed my bike with a new, noseless saddle, out onto the pavement to continue my journey.
I have spent my working life in Customer service, face to face, all the way to the Royal Family and I sure have many experiences; it is always so uplifting and heart warming when you come across the jewels of service like this one. I am so grateful for the understanding, empathy and kindness shown. We all need it, but less and less finding it, so when we do, it is only right to shout out from the roof tops about it !
Great many thanks, Giants of Customer service!
Me and my other half were looking for bikes suitable for longer rides and (like most things nowadays) were bewildered by the sheer choice of bike styles and price ranges.
We tried a few shops and most of the time they did not have the correct sizes or information regarding exactly what we were buying but encouraged us to purchase bikes without even sitting on them or understanding the different styles; we were told conflicting things by different shops and actually started losing interest in the whole process.
Nick, Justin, Pavel and the team at Giant were a breath of fresh air and explained exactly what we were looking at as well as the different sizes and why things were priced as they were (with some bikes being £500 and some being £5000).
We ordered our bikes and then went back to check the sizes before completing the purchases where our bikes were then finished off in the final specifications that we wanted.
We are very happy with the purchases and can only recommend Giant as a brand and this shop for clear cut and honest advice.
I also noticed people coming in and buying inner tubes or other parts and they were sorted out as well, this is exactly how shops should operate.
Loving the new bike as well!
Unfortunately didn't catch the mechanic's name but he was v efficient and knowledgeable and was assisted by Raymond; a lovely chap!
Many thanks
