Charged me over £160 for a full service and MOT and neither were done to the required standard. The technicians couldn't be bothered to reset any fluid lights, leading me to believe they didn't;t even change the engine oil. I measured my tyre tread depths before dropping the car off and Celtic's measurements are nowhere near accurate. What exactly I paid the £164 for I don't know.
As for the MOT - they failed the car on 6 major defects.
1) Registration plate does not reform to required standard (then quoted legislation for cars registered after 2021, whilst mine is 2018...the sheer incompetency of printing this legislation off to hand to me told me all I needed to know)
2) Same story for rear plate
3) Headlamp aim too low nearside - it would have taken the tester, or myself had I been informed, 20 seconds to rectify
4) headlamp aim projected beam image obviously incorrect - entirely false
5) Exhaust lambda reading outside specified limits - this test was carried out 10 minutes after I dropped the car off after it being sat idle for a week, I assume no warming up was undergone
6) Exhaust noise clearly in excess of that emitted by a similar vehicle fitted with standard silencer in average condition - my exhaust IS fitted with standard silencer in better than average condition. NOTE - this is a subjective failure, so clearly the tester hasn't heard an Akrapovic exhaust.
I took the car to a different garage a few days later, without mentioning the bogus failures, and the only thing that needed adjusting was point 3 above. No advisories, no minor defects. Celtic Tyres are falsifying MOT failures to garner business. On collecting my car from Celtic Tyres I had to walk through a group of 5-6 employees, smoking right at the entrance, staring at me as if I didn't belong. On receiving the failure paperwork, the employee handing it to me whispered and told me to have the test don't elsewhere as Celtic Tyres are known to be crooked.
I called Celtic Tyres to discuss this and I believe it was a manager who answered the phone - his tone was disgusting, demeaning and sexist. He insisted I come back to the premises so he could 'explain a few things' to me. I will definitely not be giving my custom to a business that threatens customers when they ask for a simple explanation. I will be striving to get my £164 back, as as far as I can see (yes, I am a qualified auto tech, apologies if that embarrasses you) nothing was done during the service and the MOT was entirely falsified.
Good luck when the DVSA visit.
