I wish I had read the other reviews of this place before hiring a van from them. Picky in the extreme over a minute scratch and invisible windscreen chip, which could well have been present on hire - additional cost to me £300. Either take the extra excess insurance so you are better covered against their pickiness, or avoid them altogether - there are way better choices in the Cambridge area.

Going with Hertz, hurts! I was charged £630 extra for small scratches that were recorded at the time of drop off. There was honestly no chance I was responsible for them all, if any. Their system of getting the untrained customer to check for damage on pick up then meticulously checking for damage on drop off severely lacks inter-rater reliability. Hertz of course knows this, happy to have these stealth charges, who cares which customer pays for the scratches?!
This was the first car I hired. I was called in to swap halfway through the rental due to the vehicle being recalled. After being charged for the first car, I got the employee to help me with inspecting the 2nd for damage. He picked up 3 scratches that I'd missed, which proves my point.
Of course, there's no understanding with customer service, they'd rather have unhappy customers that don't return for short term profit. Not a good business model.
Don't go with these scammers. If you have no choice, spend 30 mins marking down each miniscule mark on the car, otherwise its approx £150 each.
I have been renting cars several times a year for the last decade and have never experienced this.

Worst Hertz experience ever. Took the car out and 15 minutes down the carriage way we got a flat tire puncture from a shallow pothole. The spare tire in the boot was completely flat so we had to get AA Roadside assistance which Hertz charged us. The tires on the vehicle were all less than 3mils and the paper work detailed they were all at 5 mils plus. Additionally Hertz told us they did not have another car and we would have to drive this one to the authorized tyre shop to get a new tire at our expense of course. Upon return there was a small scuff on the windscreen which was noted on the checkout paperwork but yes,Hertz charged us. The guy at the return tried to tell me we picked the car up at another Hertz, could not give me a final bill. Stay far away from this shop, they will try and rob you blind.

Very helpful staff, sorted a replacement when my other Hertz rental broke down. As for being picky, after 5000 miles with a rental, having 2 3 inch dents in the wheels should not mean a claim, this was not a weekend rental. Might as well rent and not use at all.

Giving 1 as I cannot give 0. Do NOT rent a car here. Staff are incredibly rude, and I was charged £90 for what looks like wheel corrosion - no scratch, no dent, nothing that should qualify as damage or that I could possibly have done. The customer service around the damage was appalling - rude and uncooperative, and they insisted I pay or send the bailiffs and my credit rating would be affected. No investigation was done despite the salesperson admitting he was no damage expert and that the car would be reviewed by the damage expert. No visit to the car was made, and they could not provide proof of damage repair. I can only imagine they are going bankrupt and do not care about their clients and are cashing in as much as they can in the short term. Around the corner in Cambridge is Enterprise Car Hire, who I usually use - they are amazingly friendly and fair. The difference is incredible. Hertz Hurts - do not use them.

DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE My experience (May 2022) mirrors those of many others: this is a scam operation based upon spurious claims (after returning the car) of scratches and other damage -- an email after the rental included photos that do not show any such thing, and the info sheet I got at time of pickup showed the scratches were already present. Luckily when I reported the scam to my credit card company they said they would investigate and not hold me liable if Hertz tries to charge me after the fact. Hertz main office has not responded to my complaint, of course. The people at this establishment are rude beyond belief (and incomprehensible as well). STAY AWAY FROM HERE.

This was a shifty place and I should have gone with enterprise. From the moment I walked in I heard the man who was serving me arguing over the phone with a costumer. Had to pay a £220 fuel deposit which I didn’t get all of back, despite filling up right before taking the car back and their system of getting the customer to look over the damage on the car before hand is a joke. When I arrived back he said I had caused a scratch on the rim which I did not and was going to try to change me for it til
I reminded him I had also got the optional extra insurance. They didn’t refund 70 pounds of my “ fuel deposit” DO NOT HIRE FROM HERTZ!

Absolutely the worst experience. 6 months after rental and insurance was paid in full received a letter from a debt collector alleging an outstanding balance. No communication from Hertz and no evidence of the issue. Have repeatedly written to Hertz about this with no reply. Completely unacceptable conduct.
