CeX offers a wide array of second hand goods and if you have any random tech lying about there's a good chance CeX will take it off your hands, however I can't always assure that you'll have a smooth experience trading in. Your experience can at times wholly depend on what staff member you get, if you get one of the more attentive and sociable staff members you'll likely have a good experience and not have too many bumps along the way, however if you get one of the unfortunately more common ignorant and sour employees, you'll get anything from longer waiting times as they can't be bothered to test your items, or they'll randomly knock money off your trade in price just because they feel like it. I have tested this multiple times by taking the exact same item in at different times to staff and one item that a sulky employee wouldn't take, another friendly and helpful employee tested it for me instantly and gave me the full asking price.
CeX is a lottery in every sense of the word and your experiences may vary quite substantially depending on what time you go in and who you see, it's a shame the team isn't consistent as when they're on form it's a great time and a pleasant enough place to shop.
On the very rare occasion I’d say it’s worth buying some things but most of the time you’re better off elsewhere
June 2018 I purchased a PS2 game. I played it in my PS2 and the disk exploded and I had to take apart my PS2 and pick out all the pieces! The lady who says she is the manager refused to refund or replace it even though it was only £1 stating "you must have destroyed it on purpose". I complained to head office and received a £10 voucher. Not happy.
June 2022 my friend purchased a PS5 that was sold as new buy was in fact used even though it states it is new on the receipt and the staff told them it was new. The console has another person's account logged in with their debit card still linked to it and the controller had stick drift on both analogue sticks. My friend is awaiting a date at small claims court as head office have not responed.
July 2022 I purchased a CPU from the CEX website. The CPU was not in any anti static packaging and was not fuctioning properly after testing it on the Intel CPU benchmark software. I returned it to the Folkestone store who refunded me without question, then they put the faulty CPU up for sale again knowing it is faulty!!!!!!!!
Some good deals to be had. Limited stock on some popular electronics and gaming hardware.
