Beautiful location, peaceful garden. Very relaxing environment but it's a small spa and although not overcrowded, the facilities feel small and somewhat basic. Would be nice to have an ice bucket or a hot tub/jacuzzi. The showers, treatment rooms and lounges are lovely. Lunch was nutritious and tasty but needed a little more to make it feel truly special.

I recently spent a few nights here after my partner and I came across it on a spontaneous trip and it's lovely. It is a retreat that focuses on tranquility, detoxing, wellness, mindfulness and relaxation. As such it is a very quiet and peaceful place that removes outside distractions.

The retreat is out in the Kent downs which is a really beautiful part of the country and the grounds are equally as beautiful. They have some really peaceful and lovely seating areas outside along the edge of a small water way that had a little bridge and a central area with a wooden tree swing. There is also a hammock and an area beside a small pond. There are a small number of rooms here which are bright and spacious with large windows from which you can see all the country scenery. The beds are spacious and comfortable and there are draws a wardrobe, coffee table and seating. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are all generously provided along with towels. However, it is a retreat and there's no television on the premises, both in communal areas or in the rooms. There are tea making facilities in the room, breakfast tea, a selection of herbal teas and coffee, milk and bottles of water.

There is a spa on site with a pool, sauna, steam room and a number of quiet areas. One quiet area is for sitting and or reading and the other has some games such as chess and cards. You can book treatments as well. Lemon water and herbal teas are available in the spa and you can also book lunch.

The food here is all vegetarian/ vegan and is served in a nice, peaceful dining room overlooking the garden space. The food is very tasty and well made, all of it being healthy and juice is served. If staying at the retreat you can also book breakfast which is delivered to your room each morning in a sweet little picnic basket. Everything is fresh, including the juice and really tasty.

The ladies that run the retreat are amazingly lovely, very friendly, helpful and kind. I would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to detox, relax, escape the day to day or just looking for a nice peaceful day away.

Ok so this is a Spa without a spa, no spa hot tub, no bubbles..
The gardens are unkept, in dire need of attention. The building at the back is falling apart, bits of wood falling off the building, and on the paths everywhere.
The deck was black with mould, full of leaves and prickly cones that go deep into your flipflops like needles, no sweeping is ever done.
BEWARE!
There is good intention from the staff to make you feel welcome here, but overall,a feeling of, we re glad you are spending your money here but dont really care otherwise.
Not much love is felt here, and the bad smells in the non working steam room as well as cobwebs everywhere and lack of attention to detail make it feel quite a stressful experience. Everywhere you look something needs cleaning or fixing. The property is clearly not maintained at all and you wonder if any of the profits of this expensive stay are reinvested in the space or just spent elsewhere ..Not worth the expensive price tag at all. A disapointing experience for my 17 year old daughter and I.

The spa that love built! That's the only way I can describe Tor Spa Retreat. I give them 5 stars for intent and 1 star for execution. Plus, 2 stars for value for money.

I'll give you the headlines without any opinion:

No pond, just mud - every room and the spa looks out on this. No advance notice that its nothing like the pics. Not very picturesque, kept waiting for a hippo to pop its head up out of the mud!

Room access - via the salvage yard at the rear of the reception with at least 20 meters of gravel (not great if you're in a wheelchair as one of the guests was during my stay).

Bedrooms - clean, basic with damp smell, probably because there's insufficient ventilation for the bathroom. Overall, not a space you'd want to spend much time in other than for sleeping.

Beds - specifically asked for a double and it was two single beds put together. The mattresses had hard edges, so not really possible to lay across them (it's a tall person thing).

Bedding & linen - crisp, white and clean, excellent. Was concerned having read other reviews.

Bathroom - feels like a wet room but is not designed to be one, hence damp issues. Room gets soaked when using the shower, which was truly excellent. If you turn the sink tap on full, its so powerful it misses the sink.

Wi-fi - available in at least half of the room... I met other guests who couldn't access it at all.

Breakfast in a basket - too much to say so I'll keep it simple and say missed opportunity.

Spa - as per other reviews, fairly basic setup. Meet & greet was good. Plus:

- Nice showers and changing facilities
- Sauna not hot enough (dial read 60 most of the afternoon, normally 70+)
- Largest flip flop was 2/3 the length of my foot
- No towel in my locker
- Steam room stank of damp

Spa experience dinner - Indian vegetarian buffet style dinner was basic. One guest commented she had the same dish when she visited 9 months previous.

Great view from the loungers of the dried up watering hole, sadly no hippos spotted on this occasion...

A potentially lovely little retreat in dire need of some care and attention. I tried to find staff to have this conversation before leaving but in the end gave up and left the key on the side. It costs nothing to sweep up old leaves and the outside area has clearly been ignored for for months. All of this could be excused though and a great time still had. Our room however was dirty and I kept finding long black hairs wrapping round my feet in the bedroom and several in the bathroom. I've short blonde hair and my partner has a shaved head. Scruffy I can deal with but dirty is inexcusable. Such a shame as could be a really wonderful place, comfy beds and a cute breakfast in a basket. Doubt I'll be back, left sorely disappointed overall.

I have visited Tor Spa a few times now with my most recent visit being a full spa day which was a treat from my husband. It's a lovely, tranquil place where you can really switch off and unwind. The therapists provide authentic ayurvedic treatments and the food is delicious too. I would highly recommend it!

I've been to Ickham Tor many times. Little disappointed today so I'm writing a new review. The spa has been refurbished. It's updated but.
1. There was no incense burners. 2 there was no fruit, this has been stopped. My masseuse was ok but she wasn't an Indian lady so I wasn't sure about her training. She covered my hair in oil which was disgusting. And worst of all Benni has left. His wife still works there. What a team they made. The atmosphere was totally missing. Had a pleasant day but left a lot to be wanted.

I have had a couple of spa days here now and have always found it to be a relaxing retreat. The food is delicious, the massages are good and thorough, the staff are lovely and the amenities are always well stocked and clean.
