Came here for a dinner with my wife and 5 year old daughter this evening. We haven't been here in a while and we're looking forward to enjoying a enjoyable family meal at the start of the school holidays. First of all the menu was very poor we didn't realise that it was a reduced offering due to kitchen refurbishment. Unfortunately our meal wasn't very pleasant I had a steak and ale pie, my wife had a Stilton burger and my daughter had chicken nuggets and chips. The menu states that you can choose chips, you don't get chips you get fries. y wife ordered her burger with extra Stilton when it arrived we played a game of hunt the Stilton, we then sent it back. even when it was returned to our table it looked a sad excuse for a burger swimming in grease and from.my wife's comments the bun tasted like cardboard. My pie was very salty and dehydrated peas. Both adult meals came with the same amount of fries as the child's portion.

The member of staff that served us came across as bored and generally uninterested in providing a pleasant dining experience. Neither my wife or I could be bothered in complaining as the staff were obviously not interested.

What used to be a lovely place to eat has gone massively downhill. With better options local to here we won't be returning.

Would recommend surf n turf steak if going for 2 for 1 offer. I've had it 3 times so far but will go for a burger next time and mix it up :)

Cheap and cheerful. Visited the Royal Oak yesterday with family. It has a mildly farmhouse aesthetic inside and out, and is dog friendly. The staff were friendly, and came to the table often enough to make sure we were happy and if we wanted anything. The food was reasonable, but it's definitely just "pub grub" - if you want two for one mains, this is your place, but you get what you pay for. I'd definitely go back as I had a nice time and there's enough choice of food and drink for a return visit. There are plenty of pubs with better food selection and quality out there, but the bill is a lot cheaper here!

Having stayed at a local hotel really dissapointed last time with their food thought I would try this local pub.
Booked a table over the phone no problem and was shown to my seat upstairs. Waiting and bar staff very young but were all great so credit to them.
Ordered a steak and was one of the best stakes I have ever had. Cooked superbly and you could tell it was good quality meat. When the waitress said plates and food was hot she was right. All in all a good experience and will becoming again in January with others when I have to come back for a conference.

My friend and I (and her dog) came on Saturday evening. We were staying at the Brandon Hall hotel and it's only a few minutes away. We really enjoyed it. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and helpful, and all was reasonably priced too. Thank you! We'll be back

We had a lovely impromptu meal on a week night. The food was amazing, so tasty and plenty of it. The service was brilliant, with the waitresses being very polite, attentive and courteous. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning.

Lovely meal at the Royal Oak. 2 4 1. Had the Oak Chicken, which was 2 chicken breasts covered in bacon, pineapple, soft cheese and melted cheese. Chips extra. Absolutely delicious. Followed by apple and rhubarb crumble and custard. Service was excellent tables nicely spaced out. Good value for money. Well worth a visit.

Efficient friendly service. Food was perfect, well presented and attention to detail. Simple things like the butter being soft, and little twists like the ploughmans being served with a roasted head of garlic to spread on your fresh chunky bread. Found it by chance after coming home from Go Ape. Would definitely come back.
