Perhaps the most controversial yet most satisfying Chicken shop in Harrow.
I see them as the original inventors of the spicy chips in a box, their most famous item.
Everyone’s got a story about this place, from being charged insane prices to the food being extremely good or absolutely disgusting.
I have heard stories about the chips being god tier but there are tales of some who have ended up in an orchestra of diarrhoea.
In order to enjoy this place, you have to play the boss mans game.
First things first, you don’t get charged whats on the decade old menu boards. £1.50 Large chips? Be prepared to be charged £3.00 or another extortionate amount. It’s common sense really.
Second, be a regular. As with anything these days, loyalty is key. To get a consistent price you need to agree with the boss man what you actually want, and agree a price with him. That way you avoid being charged your life savings. You might end up paying 50p to a pound more as the years go by, but that’s the cost of living.
This is the game I have played for nearly a decade, and the reality is, it’s a love/hate relationship.
The burgers, wraps and chips here are so good! They don’t even put effort into their food, and it comes out tasting like that scene in Ratatouille where the food critic has a flash back. But there are times it actually seems like it has been cooked by an actual rat, those instances I feel are rare.
What really stands out here is the Chips. Tennessee have accomplished what other restaurants have failed to do, that is: turn a side item into a main.
By putting chips in the box, it lasts longer than putting it in a bag, and it appears and tastes like you are eating a main. I haven’t tasted chips like this anywhere in the world therefore I consider Tennessee to hold a legendary status for continuously having their chips taste great ever since they opened, which should be recognised.
It’s a real satisfying feeling to have been charged the right price and to have the food taste right. I haven’t found that feeling anywhere else.
The truth is, what keeps bringing me back is to see if the boss man charges me the right price & gives me food that won’t send me to A&E.
It’s an addiction. An addiction to see whether if he will cheat you. That day fortunately has not come yet.
And I keep going back to see whether he will.
It’s not just about the food.
It’s the relationship.
If they actually put effort and invested more money, they would be Michelin Star rated!
The Spicy chips are famous and have some special ingredients that I’ve never come across in other shops. Chicken is also good and has the spicy option and usually open till late2/4am which is so rare London! A must in my opinion if you love chicken and spicy chips👌🏽
