The Sawley Arms

After reading the reviews we were looking forward to eating here.
With the prices indicating a good quality of provision.
Arrived in the afternoon and the pub was reasonably busy.
No one at the bar and 3 staff in attendance, but still took 15 minutes to order 4 drinks.
Food ordering was a similar experience, with the inability of staff to use a card machine.
That was the plus side, it went down hill from there.
We were charged 10% 'discretionary' tip, without being informed of this.

The food was SHOCKING!
The 2 chicken parmesans, were bland, flavourless and under seasoned. The chicken was overcooked. The chips were not pleasant, as it was obvious from the taste that the fryer oil needed changing.

I had the pork loin with mustard sauce, again the meat was over cooked and the sauce was split, so that there was a nice pool of grease on the plate.
A partial refund was eventually given after much discussion, but would not recommend this place as somewhere to eat or drink.

The steak and & ale pie was nice, slightly too peppery for my taste,homemade, but doesn't say so on the menu. Plenty of veg on my plate,5 different kinds,which I thought was very good! Some places made a veg an add on.
We had to wait awhile,but there is a board saying food is cooked to order,so that's fair enough.
Not so keen on the service charge being added to your bill without being told about this. Nice enough place ,had better meals elsewhere and had worse,so it's a typical pub.

Excellent service our blind boy George was helped through every step. Food was fabulous. The only criticism is there has to be more dog friendly areas in the pub. This is Yorkshire and as staycation begins to be more and more popular, I sense the owner who pops over from Manx land occasionally should look at the bigger picture

Gorgeous food here today. The staff were so lovely and welcoming. We arrived early for our booking but they accommodated us straight away too.
We will definitely be back :)

Great service and very accommodating. The food in the pub was really good as was the service. The family room we stayed in was very modern, clean and had everything we needed.
We will definitely stay here again when visiting the area.

Delicious Christmas menu and highly recommended! Largest and tastiest prawn cocktail I’ve ever had! Served by attentive and friendly staff.

Really lovely staff and facilities. Weekend pricing on the rooms seemed overpriced for the season, but otherwise a nice place to stay. Lovely breakfast 🙌

Fabulous food in a friendly welcoming atmosphere.
10 of us enjoyed a delicious pre-Christmas meal in a beautifully and tastefully decorated dining room in the pub restaurant. Staff were most welcoming and very professional. The food was expertly prepared, tasted superb and the portions were very generous. Definitely the best traditional English meal I have had for a number of years. Would not hesitate to recommend The Sawley Arms; you will not be disappointed. I am eagerly looking forward to my next visit and will plan to stay overnight to experience the great hospitality on offer.
