Thanks to all the staff on ward 20 of the Leicester general for looking after my 95 year old dad and making him well again. The staff have been brilliant and looked after him making him very comfortable. Thank you for singing to him on his birthday and the kitchen staff for making him a cake. The staff have been very professional and catered for all my dad's needs..cant thank you all enough for looking after Gerald Lewin. From his daughters Sandra, Jane and Samantha and son Paul.

I've had several scans and had a 7 day stay due to acute pancreatitus, the whole team here are fantastic and literally saved my life. If I had waited another day before going to the urgent care centre who transported me to the Leicester general for treatment, I wouldn't be writing this review!
Thank god I live in the UK where I have these life saving facilities at my disposal and all free of charge.
I hope all the staff know how much they're appreciated by myself and the majority of the decent public.
Ps,,,, the staff should completely ignore the negative reviews on here, as some people like to moan for moanings sake.

I have always found the hospital’s medical care exemplary. My issue concerns the parking. I paid £2.90 for 2 hours. If the income from parking charges is well used, I have no objection….but why persist in demanding such an inconvenient amount? I presume the majority of visitors insert £3 and you benefit from keeping the change, but please consider charging multiples of £1 and, if necessary, adjusting the time appropriately. Think about it….which is more helpful to everyone, £2.90 for 2 hours or £3.00 for 2 hours 10 minutes, say?

Staff were lovely and very polite and helpful. My heart broke for the poor phlebotomists when I went for a blood test. Very few staff and lots of people waiting in corridor for blood tests. Some people still had their coats etc on, our GP surgery ask you to remove these ready to save time. These valuable staff need our help, the stress they must feel would make most of us want to run in the opposite direction. Let’s help them where possible!!

Terrible experience during August last year.

I had been under the same urologist for a number of years (private medical insurance). I asked to see the consultant on the NHS as my premiums go up every year and having paid tax all my working life, I would hope this would be not too much to ask. It was agreed that I could see the consultant on the NHS, and I travelled from Sheffield to Leicester with my husband (both taking time off work) for a pre op and then travelled again for the procedure a few days later.

When I arrived at the hospital the nursing staff couldn't be more helpful. There were only two patients in the ward (me and another), so the attention was amazing.
I had not been there long when I was prepped for theatre, and all was going well until another consultant turned up saying he would be doing my procedure. I asked where the agreed consultant was and initially was told he had other commitments. I explained I had travelled to see that consultant and had seen him for a number of years; however, I was then informed the consultant was conducting a seminar. I was furious, as I had waited over 3 years for the procedure (due to Covid) and was being told at the last minute that I would be having another consultant who I had never met and had no knowledge of.
In my opinion, it was quite apparent that the department head knew before I arrived that the consultant, I usually had would not be conducting my procedure and they thought they could effectively ‘fob me off’ with someone else at the last minute. It is most likely that the seminar was more financially viable to the consultant (although when I complained to the female in charge of patient bookings, she said it was necessary training for staff). I decided to leave the hospital without surgery and look for another consultant that I felt I could trust.

I did complain to the hospital, however, they refused to compensate me for my travel and work expenses, and I never received an apology from the consultant. Very disappointed with the staff who had assured me that I would see the same consultant I had waited to see for over 3 years, and the consultant himself who could have called me out of courtesy to let me know he couldn't perform the surgery that day (it was not as if he had an emergency). The nursing staff, however, were wonderful and very understanding of my situation, I think they were put in a very awkward position by those who did not deliver on the day.

I won’t be returning to this hospital in a hurry!

I recently had a complex knee surgery and was told before having it that I would be an inpatient for a few days due to the length of the surgery and the healing afterwards. When on the ward, a nurse told me that they didn’t have a bed for me so they moved my op to the first slot so that I could go home on the same day. After the surgery I was promptly discharged and left with a prescription of 1 codeine and 2 paracetamol every for hours. I have never been in more pain in my life. I was unable to move or get out of bed by myself due to the severity of the pain, and ended up calling the hospital to ask if I could have any stronger pain medication. Unfortunately, because I am 17, they were unable to send me home with any stronger medication. It was a real shame that they didn’t try at all to find a bed for me in order to receive a manageable amount of pain medication. However, my Dr and the nurses that looked after me were exceptional and are a credit to the NHS, and my actual surgery was performed perfectly and I can now use my leg properly thanks to my surgeon.
