Gorgeous hotel in late 19th century building. The rooms are very large and beautifully appointed with everything you need. Attentive front desk staff will see to your every need. Be sure to check out the Rotunda restaurant serving breakfast and lunch. And it turns into a steakhouse in the evening. Parking is safe behind the hotel although they charge 16 pounds for an overnight stay. Very convenient to the city centre, 5 minutes walk, and all of the historic attractions of wonderful Durham.

Fantastic hotel in this beautiful 1800's former Durham university building.
The rooms are a good size, as are the bathrooms, which are modern and tastefully decorated and themed with the history of the building.
Staff are extremely helpful and friendly.
The Marco Pierre White restaurant offers an extensive menu the quality of which is very good. Also a good wine selection.
Breakfast is also extensive and great quality and again the staff are attentive and friendly.

I would highly recommend this hotel.

A negative is the £16 per 24 hour on site parking fee.
Street parking is 80p/30mins and is free between 2pm and 8am!

Fab hotel. We stayed in one of the premium rooms. The room was spacious with a huge bathroom. Air conditioning was a great relief on one of the hottest weekends we've seen for a long time, and was not overbearingly loud. There was a fridge with complimentary soft drinks, water and local beer. Hotel is located a short walk into the city centre with most attractions being within a ten minute walk.

Breakfast was really good, you need to reserve a time slot the night before, but beats having to queue at rush hour the next morning. Breakfast is served in the Marco Pierre White restaurant, and we were served the best hotel breakfast I've had in quite a while. Having the calorie count on the menu made us think twice about what to eat, but there's plenty of long walks around the city and Riverside to burn off those calories.

Overall we loved our stay and will definitely be back.

Lovely hotel and room comfy bed and uniquely stylish yet contemporary inside.
Stayed in room 205 for 2 nights. Very central. Cheaper to park on street than their car park. Free after 2 pm and Sundays . Recommend you download Ringo app.
Our room was nice however maintenance needs to stay on top of minor issues. Round magnification mirror in bath not illuminating and switch for heated towel rail broken. Dent on bin in bathroom and mould behind basin and inside side sealant in shower.
Whilst these are only minor issues it’s the difference between outstanding and good

Second time of staying here and it was fab once again.

Clean, comfortable and welcoming. The front desk staff are superb. Breakfast is tasty. The rooms on both occasions have been spot on. Well equipped with a comfy bed and plenty of space. I would not consider staying anywhere else whilst in Durham.

Brilliant refurb of the old municipal building. This is the ideal launch pad for a stay in Durham. The room was spacious and had excellent facilities, including a sumptuous bathroom. The staff service was attentive and helpful at all times. The cocktail bar was a lovely place to start the evening and all areas of the hotel looked stunning with the Christmas decorations. Breakfast in the morning was a treat to have in such an auspicious location. My stay was high quality and very relaxing. I will definitely visit again soon.

Fabulous hotel. Close to centre and cathedral. Stayed in king with cathedral view and it was amazing. Really comfy, huge bed, spacious and beautifully furnished. Shower was great and nice touches like complimentary drinks in room fridge and Nespresso machine were appreciated. Breakfast had a really good choice with hot dishes, pastries, fruit, yoghurt, toast and cereal. All staff were really friendly and helpful. Restaurant for meal on evening was lovely and highly recommended and bar had a great atmosphere, with fab cocktails.

The hotel has a pleasing style and design, notably in the public areas. This is why we had booked the hotel when viewing online.

The rooms were of mixed quality and we moved from our first room on arrival due a generator outside the room causing a large amount of noise. The second room was cooler and was lacking in light, but quiet.

The bar, breakfast and some of the front reception staff were exceptionally warm, helpful and friendly. Unfortunately some of the front reception staff were unwelcoming and it left a negative feeling.

The parking is expensive and as the payment app was broken we ended up paying twice and then arranging a refund with the hotel reception. The parking is immediately next to the hotel, which is helpful for access.

The hotel is a great location for exploring Durham and makes everything an easy walk.
