downstairs in the hotel is lovely and has clearly been well maintained. Although unfortunately the same cannot be said for the rooms which are in much need of an upgrade, cups dirty, stains on carpets, wallpaper peeling off the walls and overall looking very unclean and unkempt. No car park and for the price I would rather have stayed on a travel lodge or premier inn somewhere nearby. I hate leaving negative reviews and understand that sometimes you cannot please everyone but feel it's a shame with this hotel which with a bit of money invested could be a lovely place to stay. I personally would not return and would book elsewhere.

Checked in with the owner who was not at all welcoming. We were sent us to our room 116. It was awful, dirty, the bedside cabinets were both broken, it was nothing like the photos on the website. We took photos and showed them to the receptionist who was helpful and offered us a downgrade. We ended up changing rooms to a double room 117. This was definitely better than the last room but we later found that the bed smelled. The room was so narrow only as wide as the length of the bed!! It was not good. We opted for a full English breakfast. Bad move it was so greasy I spat out the mushroom as I gaged on the flavour. On checking out they forgot to deduct the downgrade of the room and I had to remind the receptionist of the events that had passed the previous night. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. We were very disappointed.

Good location.
Rooms are clean but fairly basic; good water pressure but my shower was tiny.
Walls are very thin - you can hear other guests clearly (including conversations, mobile phone message beeps).

I'm staying here now (April 2019) and while the hotel is dated and slightly tired looking. It is quite comfortable. The shower is hot the room though again tired is OK. The bar and the food is good. Can't comment on breakfast as I haven't had it. The hotel is in the town centre so it's great for walking around. Had to park a couple of streets away though.

Cheap and cheerful, exactly what we needed for a long weekend. The decor throughout was old and rustic, but not in any way bad. Staff were lovely. The only thing was that the walls were paper thin, so we could hear EVERYTHING from the other rooms. I know that's just what old buildings are like, so it wasn't a massive negative. Overall, great experience.

The staff are super rude and their services are absolutely disgusting. They don't know how to speak to people, behave like some savages to you and treat you like some animals. The staff needs to be trained mainly how to speak to people in the first place, then manners then customer service. Disgusting service.

We booked for my son to stay as he was visiting from Kent. We heard the hotel was being taken over for refugees so we checked this out back in September. We visited in person to speak to the manager face to face to get answers. We were told that it would unlikely affect any bookings in November. Despite this….my son and half a dozen other people had their bookings cancelled with no prior warning. The hotel said they previously sent an email with an update on all bookings but this did not happen and they have no email copy to back this up.
Stay clear! Communication is non existent and they lie to guests!
Thankfully all the guests from my family and friends managed to book elsewhere.

I know the hotel cannot help
Closing due to COVID-19 but I was not told the hotel was isolating so a party of 4 drove 125 miles to be told we had nowhere to stay. We were told we were being transferred to another hotel but that was a total fabrication as the next hotel said they had not been informed and had no rooms and we were actually left standing on the pavement with our suitcases . The rugby hotel then refused to pick up the phone. Even isolating hotels are allowed to use the phone to deal with the problems but they simply refused to answer. I did not receive the refund that was promised and booking.com don’t answer the phone so the whole intended birthday treat was an utter disaster and we had no help. I lost my money, a weekend and had to pay out double again to try and put my guests up elsewhere
