A lovely hotel let down by the restaurant. The rooms are well appointed work comfy beds, hot showers and amenities including fresh milk which is always a treat in hotels. The reception staff are very helpful and the bar is good.

However the restaurant did not live up to it's promise. We chose the 'high end' dining as opposed to the brasserie menu.

My wife asked if she could pick a tomato salad starter from the brasserie menu as part of our fixed price three course menu. The blunt answer from the maitre d of 'no' was quickly recovered to 'let me see what i can do.'

The tomato salad was delivered and enjoyed but we were somewhat shocked to see the salad appear as cost in addition to the fixed three course menu cost., in effect paying for a four course menu not three. It may be a little thing but did take a bit shine off the dinner and makes us think twice about dining again.

The Cavendish Hotel is located on the edge of the Chatsworth Estate. The rear of the hotel overlooks open fields, and a short walk across the field leads to the Kissing Gate and free entry for walkers to the estate grounds. Rooms are comfortable and the hotel has a relaxed country house atmosphere. However, its fine dining and friendly local staff are what make it special.

The Cavendish Hotel ended a week-long UK staycation based around the Michelin Guide restaurants & hotels, and unfortunately we were very disappointed and will not be returning or recommending it. We found it to be overpriced, and focused more on up-selling than customer service.
The room was fine for the rate we paid, dinner was not up to expectations, breakfast was far below expectations.
For the evening dinner we were unfortunately not feeling well and couldn't have our final pre-paid dinner courses and asked for a couple of bottles of still water so we could rest in the room. We were charged a hefty £4/bottle - so in total we paid £12 for water (including the bottle during dinner - we had asked for tap, but the options were a still bottle or sparkling bottle). Having had some excellent service from top hotels around the country, I was half expecting the bottled water to be free (as we'd had in other hotels), or at least comp'd given we didn't finish the meal and were feeling poorly (neither were the case).
They also charged us for the morning newspaper (this was included in other hotels we during our trip).
All in all, it was a disappointing stay.

Only visited to enjoy their Afternoon Tea and it was simply superb. Added a lovely glass of LP to accompany our Tea, and the whole experience was delightful from start to finish. Made all the more enjoyable by our waitress, a fantastically charismatic lady from the east of Scotland, who made our afternoon visit even more memorable.

Lovely hotel with great rooms and a very comfy bed. Had dinner in the Garden Room, which was v nice indeed, and the breakfast was good as well. Made a good base to visit Chatsworth.

A real treasure of the Peak District. My husband and I come here year after year. You are always guaranteed a warm welcome by the team. The service is impeccable and food is of the highest of standards.

Beautiful hotel. We booked a Superior Inn room, it had views of the dales, we loved the design and found it spacious. We enjoyed daily breakfast, and ordered room service here and there, all of which were very tasty. The staff and level of their service was fantastic. We planned to stay for three days, extended to five and hope to go back. A magical vacation.

Beautiful Sunday lunch served by friendly people in a wonderful setting with the Christmas decs up. Have had their festive afternoon tea here last year and on both occasions it was all delicious. Will be returning soon!
