Went for a family meal. Staff were pleasant but the food was very average. This place is much in need of a makeover. Very run down and it's four star rating must have been obtained a long time ago!
The approach road needs upgrading and the signage is barely visible.
Actually had an enjoyable evening but this was because of the nature of the event and not the venue. No plans to re-visit.

Stayed here for a couple of weeks due to moving down for a new job. Really lovely hotel, great staff, really good food (I had pretty much everything off the menu at least once over the fortnight) and the chef was really accommodating with changes etc and was set in a really beautiful location, out of the way, nice and quiet. Would definitely recommend! Only 2 small things, the decor was a little dated for me, but it does fit the aesthetic of the hotel, and the water pressure in the two rooms I stayed in was a little low, but again, I like a proper power shower!

This was a one night stopover half way through our journey. We arrived very late and were let in by a young man who barely spoke (I know it was late but not even a welcome). The room was very tired looking. BUT the hotel was clean and tidy - which is important to me, that’s why I gave it 3 stars. The price was expensive for what it was.

Me and my mum spent the night for a Murder mystery evening. Every single member of the team went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We felt so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The room itself was rather dated but it added to the authenticity of our evening. And the service far outweighed the decor!

Rooms could do with an update. Our room wasn't warm on arrival and took 3-4 hours to become comfortable. We have stayed here before, for convenience of location. Our last visit 17-10-22 the television wasn't working but we had unpacked and didn't want to move, our toilet flush was weak too, bedside lamp not working and duvet very thin...we probably would stay here again but a few tweaks would make a huge difference

Good value for money.

Stayed here for a murder mystery dinner event which was brilliant but isn’t part of this review. This review is for the accommodation, services and food provided by the hotel. I’ll review the actors/murder mystery event organiser separately.

The three course was dinner surprisingly good, very tasty and I really enjoyed it. The chicken may have been a little dry, but the sauce was tasty and compensated this. The service was good and with a smile.

The staff are very nice, welcoming and chatty.

The room was very dated (80s) and quite tired, but functional. The water was really hot and flowed fast - instant bath!!

The internet was amazingly good - another surprise. Appeared to be provided by Starlink. 50 mbps + download and 17+ upload. Very low latency.

The room was cool, but I like it like that. An electric panel heater seemed to be available, but didn’t use it.

It’s very close to a motorway. So you do hear road noise, but this didn’t disturb my nights sleep.

Overall we had a great time. Pricing wise: Bar prices were at the upper end - a cheap Pinot Grigio bottle was £22.95. But - the murder mystery package for two including double ensuite, three course dinner and breakfast was only £169 total. I thought that was great value for money.

Avoid this Hotel. It states that it has 4 star rating but how I'd like to know. We booked a night away and when we arrived was given our keys to a room that obviously hadn't been upgraded since the 80s. Wall paper was peeling off the walls and the ivy vines from outside was growing through the window. We went and asked for another room again very dated decor. Tv did not work so reported this and waited in the bar for it to be looked at. When back to the room to get ready for the evening and didn't have any hot water, waited over an hour and half for the water to warm. Had to leave and go to lunch without a shower and take one on the night when we returned. Shower door didn't close properly so water could escape from the gap. The springs in the mattress could be felt and you ended up in a dent that has been made obviously from the age of it. During the night debris fell from the ceiling beams and woke us up leaving dirt on the headboard and bed. Telly although on kept going fuzzy. Worse night we'd ever experienced. Tried to complain to obtain some sort of compensation to be told there was no manager so we had to leave hoping that they would contact us. We had to chase a couple of days later to be told that it's not in their policy to refund. An absolutely disgusting service and fail on their 4 star rating.

We have just spent two nights over Christmas at this hotel. Three issues we had were :1) there is no sign at the turn off into the lane where the hotel is. Reception said there used to be a sign but for some reason it's disappeared. As a consequence, two of us drove straight past and had to stop and ask for directions. 2) we tried to pay cash for our bar drinks but were told the hotel doesn't take cash. This should be clearly stated on their website. Eventually the manager agreed for us to open a tab and pay cash at reception when we left. The manager was extremely pleasant so no complaints there. Couldn't get hot water from the shower so had to make do with luke warm. Not sure what the problem there was. However, we didn't complain as the wonderful staff, food and quirkiness of the hotel more than made up for the three issues. In particular, Nicola the events manager was so friendly and superbly good at her job. A mention also for the receptionist. Nothing was too much trouble. So do give the hotel a chance It's a great place.
