A gorgeous building with history going back as far as the early 1200’s. The main reception and ground are simple stunning as you weave your way through what feels like hallways brimming with stories to tell. The double room I stayed in was well kept, sizeable and warm.

Unfortunately however (and this is not the hotels fault), a nightclub has popped up across the road within the last 6 months. I stayed with the hotel on a Saturday and the music did not stop thumping until 3:30am (which is illegal), patrons (otherwise known as slobs) of this establishment spent most of their night vomiting in the streets or creating even more noise and chaos. If you’re a light sleeper I would recommend finding somewhere else to stay away from such venues. I wouldn’t mind if the music wasn’t just all bass. We stayed during one of the hottest summers on record, keeping the windows shut while having no air conditioning in the room was stifling and almost mins bending.

Overall however, and if the nightclub opposite would have been razed to the ground, the stay was/would have been gorgeous. I feel truly lucky to have walked through the history and seen the building and grounds in its glory.

Beautiful hotel and lovely staff, however there was no kids menu, me and my partner ordered a chicken burger then when given the food was told they didn't have what we ordered so was given a chicken salad which mine had a hair on. I don't think the room accommodated two young children, the kids beds were squeezed next to our bed with a thin mattress and thick blanket, one of which was right up against a radiator, we also found that one of the towels in bathroom had what looked like red tooth paste smeared on it before we could use it, also found thick black hairs in a number of places in our room. Breakfast wasn't to bad until my son went to grab a bowl for the fruit salad but found a dead fly in the bowl and I went to get my daughter some juice to which I found a dead fly in the jug, but like I said the staff were understanding, polite and well mannered and I got the impression that they were under staffed and over worked, think the hotel just needs some improvements and maybe some better management 🤷‍♀️ but it is Beautiful

Very helpful staff. Because of the age of the building its a bit higgldy piggldy in places but we'll maintained. Breakfast was OK, nothing amazing but perfectly fine and plenty of it. We had an evening meal as part of a group set menu which was very nice. The local council need to help their local businesses by sorting out the car park vouchers though because that side of things wasn't great.

Staff are wonderful but the hotel is falling apart and leaks like a sieve. Stayed in mid November for a family celebration. Our first room was next to a hot water pump that sounded like a road drill and went off regularly all through the night because of dripping taps in other rooms, avoid room 46 & 47. Our second room was room 18. A really nice room but the sink was blocked which was sorted out straight away. The problem with the room is that it is over the reception area, every time the main door closed there was a triple bang which could be heard very clearly in the room. On the second night we spent in the room it rained, with water running down a wall in the bathroom. The third night it rained again, this time the water extended into the bedroom and ran down the walls. Another of our party allocated room 45 had water dripping through the ceiling. We also noticed water marks through out the hotel and water coming through the 'closed' windows. The fabric of the building is tired and in need of serious investment. The breakfast was very plain and nothing special. One morning there was hardly anything provided. We were given three excuse, one that only one person (a young person) had turned up for work, two that the electrical circuit in the kitchen had blown of the wall, three that the gas had failed. I believe the first one. There was very little provision for dietary restrictions despite pre notifying them. All in all a place to stay away from.

2 nights in October 2022. A bit ragged with new staff being trained post covid but enjoyable stay overall. Good dinner in the hotel, excellent buffet breakfast with lots of choice. Hotel itself is fascinating with lots of interesting nooks and crannies and artifacts. Raining most of the time so unfortunately couldn't enjoy courtyard. Close to everything in Salisbury.

Popped in for lunch while we were shopping in Salisbury. Sat in the bar, people were also sat in the lounge. Lovely young lady behind the bar lovely service. We only had jacket potato which was lovely but they did have a small menu with burgers, pies etc. It was nice as we could sit and chat with no rush.

Absolutely dreadful experience! The Red Lion is definitely one to avoid. Very poor level of customer service from ll staff but in particular the reception staff. The breakfast room was dirty and we had to ask for milk, bowls, and the hot food was not replenished. The photos will give you some idea!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our Wedding Reception at Best Western The Red Lion Hotel in Salisbury. Harmony saw us through the majority of our plans, and offered to do some of the wedding stationery and then Tracey and the team took us through our big day. From start to finish the co-ordinators made us feel at ease, they were friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and efficiently served. We will treasure the memories created with our family and friends. Thank you for making our day extra special.
