Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel

I think we had an economy room which was tiny, care needed if using toilet at night not to bump into TV. Room looked unkempt and in need of redecoration. Noisy extractor outside of window. Breakfast was buffet style which left a lot to be desired. Limited parking and a £20.00charge. That's enough of the down side. On the good side excellent staff friendly and helpful. Location was spot on with a short walk to all the sites and shopping if you need too. Would go again but would need to up the budget for a nicer room(hopefully)

This hotel was a very good choice. Location is great, right in the heart of Oxford, close to shops, restaurants and different Oxford University buildings. The hotel is simple yet classy. I really liked the bar and the breakfast is quite good too. However, what stands out from the rest is the friendliness and service oriented character of the staff. Employees were friendly, talkative and encouraging since the very beginning, specially one lady at the reception named Quiddy. Her energy and positivism was definitely uplifting!

I made a reservation on. Thursday night and the next morning I had a red flag, red box warning from Gmail/Google to not open the confirmation email. Never had received anything like it. I had emailed the hotel directly to verify the reservation (prior to the warning email). Didn’t hear anything back so contacted my cc to reverse the charges. It took the hotel till Tuesday to answer my email!! It was a prepayment reservation that I wanted to cancel less than 18 hours after I made it. It is very scary that the hotel management NEVER said a word about the warning email or the reservation third party site they use. Any hotel that refuses to address my concerns regarding the safety of their reservation site and hasn’t refunded my money yet probably isn’t a hotel you want to stay at. Sad thing is, was looking forward to staying but seems they don’t care about the integrity of their reservation site nor do they care about whether your cc information is safe. Excellent hotel right in centre. We stayed in the new building behind the main one - modern and fresh. Car park is very small but they take your key and move cars around to fit you in! However on a busy night I think you'd have to find off-site parking.

Item stolen from room, bank cards been copied, be careful of your privacy if you stay here. As they can’t tell you who has been in your room, the access control cards don’t match up to the employees. Employee also asked to check my bag. I am still awaiting response from operations manager in which this happened in July. On top of this, our room wasn’t of the best quality, toilet water constantly running, and shower blocked, no shower gel. Unfortunately we have been damaged emotionally and financially by this stay that was intended to be a happy and special occasion. Would have been nice for some better customer care. Definitely won’t be staying at this branch or chain again.

I booked for the location, which is quite convenient. However, I'm surprised this is a 4-star hotel. Rooms are old, walls and doors were dirty (see pictures), shower had low pressure, WiFi couldn't support video calls for work, and they only had instant coffee and then tried to charge me for a regular coffee! Definitely won't stay here the next time I'm in town.

An absolutely wonderful experience, from staff who went the extra mile, to great room with huge bathrooms which were spotlessly clean. The breakfast was delicious. Best location for shows , meals and sightseeing. We will definitely be returning

Other than the room being quite dusty and not as clean as usual, the stay was fine. We had an issue with other guests and some smells leaking into our room but it was only for one night, assuming the manager fixed the problem. The bed size is brilliant.
