On arrival, going up the hotel path and carpark, first impression and look is that of neglegance, isolation and suspense, eerily similar to that of Bates Motel in Alfred Hitchcock's film 'Pshyco'... However when you enter the hotel, the interior in contrast to the exterior is facinating, were you have this nice, warm and atmospheric welcoming feeling from the staff. The place has character and cosiness feel to it, but the best surprise to us was the actual food and the variety of tasty delicious dishes they were serving, some of the best we've ever tried and tasted. Also the land-lady who was the actual cook, was lovely to know and speak to, telling us the history of the hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed listening to and and learn more about, plus the rest of the staff are very friendly and very welcoming.. . I personally recommend this place for a visit and try their exquisite food and the generous portions given, you will be pleased, and looking forward to re-visit this hotel... However I do think the Hotel management need to put some attention to the exterior of the building too, clearing the rubbish and tidying up the outside to reflect the real image of the place that we very much enjoyed experiencing.

Not quite sure why there is so many good reviews, got a very hostile welcome when we stayed here, the place was freezing cold upstairs and they lied to us saying the boiler had broken when in fact it was due to the energy prices (no surprise) we then had the awkwardness of the situation as being told one thing by the landlord and another by Anne I believe her name was who was hostile to my partner because he has severe asthma, when we asked for more blankets she basically said the heating did work. We could have an hour and that was it.

You also can't leave after 10pm, if you do youll set the alarms off, which means your only way of escape is via a fire door which then means if you do you need to go out you'll leave the venue open to someone coming in via the same door, a door which I may add is up the side of the building. A dodgy old spiral staircase thing.

Our mattress was stained old and dirty, even worse our duvet was old and decayed from bedbugs, we both woke up after the first night with bites.

Wouldn't recommend anyone stay here, not just because the staff are hostile but the areas nearby are also incredibly rough and rundown.

£60 a night isn't cheap either.

Hotel has a warm friendly atmosphere, rooms are a little tired but this is more than made up for with the food and cheap beer. Reasonable price for a room which includes a free brekkie, what's not to like!

Pet friendly hotel, food was lovely. If you are adverse to pet hair stay elsewhere. We were fine so not a problem. Nice pint of beer and great prices and lovely breakfast. Suited us champion.
