We hadn't booked a table anywhere and after ringing several restaurants eventually rang Anchorage who could fit our group of 8 in. After an hour waiting for our food it became apparent why they had space....food eventually turned up over 90 minutes after we ordered. This was a real shame as the waitress was really friendly and helpful, and the food was also a decent quality but waiting this long for the food is unacceptable. Half the group were past it and no longer hungry by the time we were actually served.

We had a lovely one night stay, eat in the bar, very nice. Breakfast was also very good. The staff were professional and helpful would stay again

Fancy going back to the eighties? Paying fortune for microwaved food? Don't be able to sleep and shower with a corroded shower head surrounded by black mould? Visit this place!!! The food in the restaurant was worse than in a school canteen and therefore overpriced. I couldn't really eat it and wanted to go to a supermarket to get a meal deal as even a soggy Tesco sandwich would be nicer and cost a sixth of the price. The breakfast was okay and they had brown bread, so that was really nice because I wasn't expecting that, also the drinks we've ordered (beer and G&T) were served correctly and tasted as they should have. The room had one of the beds visibly leaning to one side, I've never seen such badly broken bed in my life, I don't think that they have worse even in a homeless shelter. The shower fittings were rusty, and there was black mould everywhere in the bathroom which is quite common in the UK hotels but the extent of this mould was much more than usual. The entire hotel looked like nobody has done any maintenance in past 40 years and it smelled that way too. The guests in the room above were running in the room for hours, so I guess that it must have been children and when we asked the reception to talk to them, they asked what we want them to do! Other than that the customer service was good. I wished that we stayed in a tent or Holiday Inn instead. I visit hotels for work all the time and even hotels that were half the price were nicer than this one. There was only one worse hotel than this and that was a half the price and hat cockroaches and it was in Dublin city centre but it wasn't too surprising because of the low price. If you pay over £120 per room you expect much better. If the room cost £65 per night and the restaurant food 1/3 of the price there would be no complaints because it would be expected for the price but we wouldn't stay there. We naively thought that if we pay this price, we get a decent room as everywhere else but that was clearly a mistake. I am writing this review because I wish that someone wrote this review before and we'd know what to expect, so we'd book somewhere else and didn't have spoiled weekend. Thankfully, the beautiful countryside and seaside fixed the unpleasant hotel experience. It costs hundreds of pounds to get there and back and being tired after the journey we were expecting decent food and be able to have a decent shower and food. I suppose that if the food wasn't so bad I wouldn't be as upset but when you are starving and there's nowhere else to go then you start to notice everything else. I used to work in hospitality, so I know when food is microwaved and I just don't think that it's acceptable to charge this sort of money for microwaved food. Also, the texture of the chicken breast was a little strange, like it started to disintegrate from the inside... which is probably a reason that I had ...let's say 'gastro- internal' problems afterwards, which I get approximately once in a decade. So, never again unless this place is completely overhauled and a competent cook hired, or we're just having a drink.

The Anchorage Hotel has got one of the best seafood restaurants on Holy Island. Delicious seafood and fish dishes, very good wines, excellent service - a great place for a special occasion! Also, after the restaurant closes you can adjourn to the comfy, well-sorted bar and have a drink or two.

We stayed for 2 nights and found that the manager wasn't very accommodating. The room although was clean there was black mold in the silicone. On a plus side the food was beautiful and the waitresses were very polite .

Tea making facilities in room were dirty and unusable. Stained mugs and mucky grimy glasses. Stunning view of inland sea was ruined by dirty window and filthy soffits. In the bathroom, toilet seat did not fit on bowl. Only few sheets of toilet paper, no spare roll. Shower controls broken at tap, shower curtain mouldy and couldn’t move rings along rail without manhandling each one. Old used bar of soap in dish. Huge dirty crack in washbasin. I could go on….

Nothing special. Food was nothing to write home about for the price, service was only acceptable. Very young staff were very polite but clearly lacked experience and were clueless about the drinks menu. Decor is now dated. Hotel is for sale so probably end of the line for the current owners. Used to be a great pub years ago but has sadly lacked investment over the years.

All we wanted was a drink and a meal in a very large empty bar , we had 2 small dogs with us , and in an unfriendly way were told no dogs allowed. In times of many businesses struggling, I find being turned away amazing , maybe they were expecting a coach load !!!
