When I got home I realised it was only signed for and not tracked.
I went back to the shop and was told that because it had been booked in by them, it now has to be collected by Royal Mail and I have to go to Cranbrook Rd, to pick it up. This was a lie.
So now instead of giving me the parcel back, when they still had it in their possesion, it is now lost in the system and is highly unlikely to reach the recipient as it's not tracked.
Husband took in helium balloons to be filled for our daughters birthday. Gentleman then burst one of them and instead of replacing it, charged him for a new one!
Jack runs that place and is a pillar of our community, thank goodness for him!
I'm surprised by some of the negative comments, which don't reflect my interactions or my daily observations.
The queue can sometimes be long, which has been expected during Covid when numbers inside the shop have to be limited, also as there is only one member of staff, one problem/slow customer can have a significant impact on the flow of customers.
I have however encountered more thoughtless, entitled customers than seems typical, which might however account for some of the reviews. For example; kicking off when attemping to pay at the counter with a bag of pennies at the start of a pandemic with a huge queue outside and (rightly) being told 'no, I'm not accepting them' , not presenting valid/accepted ids but demanding the foreign currency ordered is handed over (it can't be) and printing-out paid for online postage at home, deliberately understating dimensions/weight and then wondering why a parcel is not accepted.
The abolute favourite, after wondering why the branch was unexpectedly closed for 10 days, was discovering some kind, altruistic individual, who knowingly had a positive Covid test, decided to visit the PO anyway to post a home shopping return (ie a non-urgent consigment) and then tell Jack after the event, so he had to self-isolate and close the office when there was no cover. I sincerely hope they read this and realise exactly what a shining example of humanity they are.
This is an essential service, it had to be closed due to one indivdual's deliberate, obstinate stupidity which had a very detrimental impact on local businesses and residents, as well as putting Jack at risk and creating the possibility of an infection node. Well done you.
