Second time I've camped here. The experience was amazing. Fishing was fantastic. 2 of us fishing and both caught our pb. Mine a 20lb mirror and my friend an 18lb mirror. There are a lot bigger to be caught here. Each session I fished had at least 1 over 10lb. Tackle shop is very well stocked. The cafe and bar was great. Food very nice and there was some entertainment on which was a great laugh. All the staff and people around are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back here again

Nice for fishing and my husband loves the fishing lakes. Facilities are good but not amazing. Fantastic staff though and friendly place

Good pitches and the lady running the place was friendly and helpful. Decent fishing, cafe and tackle shop. Enjoyable weekend. Just missing a star for the flooding showers and condition of the fish in some lakes. They obviously get hammered all year.

Liked: Nice view

Disliked: Pitchup said to check in in tackle shop then the staff were quite rude in the tackle shop and said I was in the wrong place. Reception was closed. Toilets were not the nicest, there was a cigarette butt on the toilet seat.

Liked: An Excellent welcome on arrival, offer to be upgraded to a full serviced pitch which obviously was gratefully accepted. Clean and tidy pitch. There was an apology for the winter upgrade of the amenity block.

Disliked: The amenity block, yes was in the process of being upgraded but the “walkway” was very muddy and hard to keep oneself clean on exit. Not really keen on the one room toilet shower set up, but let’s hope when the work is completed it is much improved.

Liked: Walks around the lake and to town

Disliked: No one in reception on arrival or during our stay. Just a piece of paper with name and our pitch number. No site map.

Hardstanding pitches are just a square the size of your caravan in the grass and you have to walk across muddy grass to get to the roadway. So no point in Hardstanding.

Pile of rubbish on the island in middle of the lake at first we thought it was an un burnt bonfire but then saw it was just scrap (old cylinder and appliances etc)

Toilets and showers were unheated, dirty and never cleaned while we were there.

Cafe was never open during our stay even though it said it should be on the piece of paper. We went to try get breakfast twice.

Pub was shut a couple of evenings even though we asked if it was going to be open before we booked.

The electric went off twice during our stay. It was a section of the site so needed site maintenance. No one answered the phone number provided on the piece of paper. A friend had a mobile number he found online and a person responded to a message that they would get it back on. Ended up being off from around 7pm and came back on the following morning. Luckily we had some gas with us to keep warm, but this was very stressful as we didn't know how much we had in it.
2nd time was off for about an hour.

Liked: Walks around the lakes to offsite local nature reserve & cafe. Walking distance to Retford.

Disliked: Sorry to say but toilets, showers, facilities not fit for use - absolutely disgusting. No staff around, no one to greet us on arrival. Cafe, bar, pool table mostly closed. Electric off all night, no one around to fix it and no offer of a refund. Other campers asking us for help as no staff around. The place is busy with fishermen coming and going at all hours. We passed the local tip on entrance, and water treatment works (stench & flies). Loads of pot holes which had been filled but still very much a problem. Only staff visible during our stay were those who came along around 9am on the day we were leaving, on their tractors making loads of noise for a couple of hours. Made no effort to say hello, or wish us a happy new year, or thank us for our custom etc.
Hardstanding pitch, which was only accessible by driving and walking across grass/mud.
On the island in the middle of the lake are several great big piles of scrap metal which is an absolute eyesore and adds to the experience of being on a tip.

Liked: Very quiet for this time of year

Disliked: Showers and toilets. Okay not the best but better than some. I’ve been in. We don’t mind using the Caravan shower and toilet after all the Caravan is not as showpiece, it’s to be used
